KaitLphere wrote: "a copy of the Comic Book History of Comics, because it's too long for me to read as a limited time Hoopla borrow!"I found a physical copy at my library but I had to renew it a few times to finish it. It's dense.
Usagi Yojimbo Saga, Vol. 3 ★★★★Another fantastic collection of Usagi Yojimbo comics.
Avengers: Clear & Present Dangers ★★★★The Avengers fight the Grim Reaper. There's a ton of focus on a love triangle of Wonder Man, Scarlet Witch and the Vision.
Avengers: Ultron Unlimited ★★★★Ultron returns, wiping out a small country in Eastern Europe. Now it's up the Avengers to finally put a stop to him.
Avengers/Thunderbolts, Vol. 1: The Nefaria Protocols ★★★★The Avengers and the Thunderbolts team up to take Count Nefaria down.
The Secret of the Wings (Wynd #2) ★★★★I really like how this is for all-ages. There's elements older kids could take out of this, about how you can grow up to be whoever you want, you just have to choose to make it happen. The characters are all diverse. The story is packed with action. The world building all fits very well together.
The New Avengers, Volume 11: Search for the Sorcerer Supreme ★★★★Dr. Strange is no longer the Sorcerer Supreme due to some deals he made in order to help the Avengers. Now he's searching for the new Sorcerer Supreme, but so is The Hood.
Klarion, Volume 1: The New Witch in Town ★In Ann Nocenti and Trevor McCarthy we get a perfect storm of nonsensical dialogue and indecipherable page layouts. I just finished this and couldn't tell you what it was about.
Gen 13: Starting Over The Deluxe Edition ★★★Gen 13 are the children of Team 7, a covert ops team that gained superpowers. They passed on their powers to their children. Now a government agency wants to activate those powers and use them as agents. It's a neat premise, but poor execution.
Gun Theory ★★★The story of a cold blooded hitman who you never see coming. Well, at least until the day he meets a girl. That was his first not not his last mistake.
Fantastic Four Epic Collection Vol. 20: Into the Time Stream ★★★★Walt Simonson's time on Fantastic Four was, well, fantastic. I love the big ideas he brought in and his artwork on those big ideas is very inventive and bombastic.
At the End of Your Tether ★★Starts off interesting about two military brats who fall in love but are separated by family moves. The disjointed storytelling though where we only get partial scenes scattered back and forth in time made it really difficult to track. It's really an exorcise into how not to do nonlinear storytelling.
New Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis: The Complete Collection, Vol. 4 ★★★★This is what New Avengers has been building towards since its inception. Secret Invasion is the culmination of it all. I like how Bendis uses this series as a between the numbers series during Secret Invasion where he just keeps dropping bombs about things that were unseen but happened in the past.
Infinite Frontier ★★★A hodge-podge of stories used to lead into Dark Crisis.
X-Men: Days of Future Present ★★★★Future Franklin Richards from Days of Future Past returns to current time. He basically has the powers of a god and starts changing things to be like they were in his time line.
Moon Knight, Volume 1: The Bottom ★★★★Marc Specter has hit rock bottom. His legs are shattered after ripping Bushman's face off. He's alienated all of his friends and Marlene. Khonshu has abandoned him. That's when an old nemesis goes after his friends...
Moon Knight, Volume 2: Midnight Sun ★★★This series is really dark and graphic. It's like the Se7en of comics.
Moon Knight, Volume 3: God & Country ★★★Benson couldn't really decide what he wanted this story to be. It tries to be too many things and only partially succeeds.
Comic Book History of Comics ★★★★★If you've even wondered about the history of comic books, this is a great place to start.
Batman Vol. 5: Fear State ★★★I think this will probably read better in Batman: Fear State Saga where you get the complete story instead of just the Batman issues.

Tom wrote: "I read Bitch Planet, Vol. 2: President Bitch. They (De Konnick and Leandro) certainly know how to bring an arc to a climax. Good stuff."Are they ever going to finish this series?
Last week's adventures in comics.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Collection, Vol. 3 ★★★★★At this point Eastman and Laird were no longer working together, alternating issues. Some are really good. Some are goofy. The star of the book is the 3 part Return to New York story. Eastman and Laird collaborated together for this arc and wouldn't do it again for another 30 issues.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Collection, Vol. 4 ★★★★Eastman and Laird return to TMNT for the first time in almost 30 issues to plot out City at War along with actually drawing issue #50.
Fantastic Four Visionaries: Walter Simonson, Vol. 2 ★★★The Fantastic Four bounce around the multiverse.
Fantastic Four Visionaries: Walter Simonson, Vol. 3 ★★★★Ghost Rider, the Hulk, Spider-Man and Wolverine fill in as the FF. Drawn by Art Adams. Then Dr. Doom returns and battles Reed between moments in time which draws the attention of the Time Variance Authority.
Spider-Man: Quality of Life ★Yikes, I can't believe Greg Rucka's name is on this. It's bad. It's really bad. The art looks like CGI from the Reboot cartoon era.
Azimut ★★★★Imagine if Terry Gilliam made a movie of Alice in Wonderland. The book exhibits an odd quirkiness having to do with the passage of time in this bizarre world.
Avengers Assemble - Volume 2 ★★★★Kurt Busiek and George Perez - Year 2. The issue where Beast appears is my favorite. It's an ode to the bromance Beast and Wonder Man had back in the 70's Avengers. Then Ultron returns and murders an entire country.
Avengers Assemble - Volume 3 ★★★★Kurt Busiek and George Perez - Year 3. The best part about this one was the crossover with the Thunderbolts. Perez leaves the comic at the conclusion of this volume.
By Chance or Providence ★★★Three dark fairy tale like stories full of werewolves and the undead.
Stan Lee's The Devil's Quintet: The Armageddon Code: A Thriller ★★★This was written from one of Stan Lee's unproduced ideas. It's about a team of Seal Agents who get powers from a deal with the Devil and then have to try and find a way out of it.
The New Avengers, Volume 8: Secret Invasion, Book 1 ★★★★★While Secret Invasion is going on, he turns this book into a little between the moments book. You're seeing previously unseen moments that show how this all came together and how since day one. It's like the Keyser Söze reveal of comics.
The New Avengers, Volume 9: Secret Invasion, Book 2 ★★★★★At the moment this isn't really The New Avengers, it's how we got to Secret Invasion.
The New Avengers, Volume 10: Power ★★★★★The fallout from Secret Invasion along with the setup for Dark Reign.
This week's trip to the LCS.Teen Titans Academy #13
X Deaths of Wolverine #5
Task Force X #6
Demon Days: Blood Feud
Ghost Cage #1 <-- Nick Dragota's follow up to East of West. It looks like a manga
Last week's adventures in comics.
Fantastic Four Visionaries: John Byrne, Vol. 3 ★★★★The Fantastic Four head to the Negative Zone.
Fantastic Four Visionaries: Walter Simonson, Vol. 1 ★★★★After an Acts of Vengeance tie-in, the FF along with Thor and Iron Man get all timey-wimey as Simonson adapts a plot he planned for the Avengers for the FF.
Alpha Gods: Betrayal ★★A misogynistic throwback to 90's era superteams with lots of villains in lingerie.
My Boyfriend Is a Bear ★★★★A woman dates an actual bear. It's actually a weirdly witty, charming romance.
Wonder Woman by George Pérez, Vol. 5 ★★★Wonder Woman finally meets Donna Troy post-Crisis and Doctor Psycho. Then some prep for War of the Gods.
Giants ★★★★A Cain and Able story set in a world overtaken by kaiju amid a new Ice Age.
Vinegar Teeth ★★An eldritch horror that looks like a giant scrotum is hired as a cop after he eats a criminal. The art is really gross. It's nonstop vomiting and partially digested body parts.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Volume 21: Battle Lines ★★★★Bishop and the EPF invade Burnow Island. One of the characters makes the ultimate sacrifice.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Volume 22: City At War, Part 1 ★★★★Karai has returned from Japan and attempts to take back the Foot Clan setting up all out war between all the various factions running around New York.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Volume 23: City at War, Part 2 ★★★★★The last 100 issues all come crashing together as Karai, Bishop, Splinter, Kitsune, and Hob all make their moves.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder in Hell ★★★★Mateus Santolouco's art is terrific, his writing can be ambivalent and confusing.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Reborn, Volume 1 – From the Ashes ★★★Sophie Campbell takes over writing and drawing TMNT. She establishes a new languid dynamic with all mutants living in the open in a walled off section of Manhattan.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Reborn, Volume 2 – Life After Death ★★This is basically Campbell's Wet Moon comic with mutants. It's just the Turtles and their friends living their lives in Mutant Town and it all feels kind of boring after the previous 100 issues.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Reborn, Volume 3 – Time After Time ★★★An adult Lita arrives from a future where everyone parted ways. It all comes down to an uneventful Battle of the Bands. This is quickly turning into a series that I'm just not interested in anymore.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Jennika ★★Jennika is very weak-willed in the story and doesn't assert herself at all. She deserves better than letting herself get pulled along with two guys that murdered someone and left her to take the fall.
The Mask: I Pledge Allegiance to the Mask ★★The Mask runs for president. It's a half assed attempt at political satire.
Maw #1 ★★Two sisters go to a womens' commune. One of the sisters sneaks out to a bar where she's sexually assaulted. The subject matter was way too heavy for me and there wasn't enough hint of where the series was headed after this first issue.
Good Luck #1 ★★A dystopian future where luck is quantifiable. Kind of dumb.
Little Moments of Love ★★A cute, saccharine sweet set of comics strips about a girl loving her boyfriend.
Riverdale Vol. 1 ★★★hese were actually some decent stories that take place between episodes of the series.
Hex Vet: Witches in Training ★★A comic for young children that isn't very good.
Giant Days, Vol. 1 ★★★★★A really funny comic about a bunch of college kids in England.
Abbott ★★★★★A black female reporter in 1970's Detroit gets embroiled in supernatural murders. Excellent!
Master of Kung Fu #126 ★★Pretty goofy. Shang-Chi comes across a guy kidnapping and experimenting on animals in order to teach them Kung-Fu. Written by the wrestler CM Punk.
The Legend of Shang-Chi #1 ★★★MI-5 contacts Shang-Chi to steal a sword that steals people's minds. The only problem is Lady Deathstrike wants it too.

The Flash #780
Justice League #74
Nightwing #90
A Refrigerator Full of Heads #5
X Lives of Wolverine #5
Happy pi day. Last week's adventures in comics.
Transformers: Beast Wars, Vol. 1 ★★A comic reboot of the old cartoon.
Tom Clancy's The Division: Remission ★★★Surprisingly this prequel to the video game was a European comic that Dark Horse brought to the states.
Bloodshot by Tim Seeley Deluxe Edition ★★A return to the one-note, mindless violence version of Bloodshot from the 90's.
Chronophage ★★★The story of a struggling single mother who meets a man who ignites a passion within her. But then strange things start happening to her. She starts missing time. She begins to see ghosts.
Green Class - Volume 2 - The Alpha ★★★The story of teenagers trying to survive in a world where a virus can turn you into a mutant creature continues.
Avengers West Coast: Darker than Scarlet ★★★John Byrne continues to put the Scarlet Witch through the ringer. Yes, this is the rest of the story WandaVision pulls from.
Fantastic Four: 1234 ★★★Grant Morrison, Mark Millar and Jae Lee make an FF story.
Union Jack: London Falling ★★★★Britain's answer to Captain America. Union Jack along with Sabra, the Arabian Knight and Contessa Allegra Valentina de la Fontaine of SHIELD have to stop a bunch of D-list Marvel villains from murdering everyone in London.
Skrull Kill Krew ★★★★I love how this tied into Fantastic Four #2. Back in the 60's, Reed Richards hypnotized some skrulls into permanently changing into cows. At a certain point, those skrull cows were butchered and turned into fast food hamburgers. Anyone who ate them gets a disease that will eventually kill them along with shapeshifting powers along with the ability to see disguised skrulls. Now these humans for formed into the Skrull Kill Krew and hit the road to take out these skrulls that are lying in wait.
Usagi Yojimbo, Vol. 14: Demon Mask ★★★★Usagi Yojimbo continues to be terrific. This volume contains mainly short stories about the anthropomorphic ronin as he wanders Japan.
Forever Home ★★★A haunted house graphic novel for kids.
Marvel Visionaries: Jim Steranko ★★★★★Steranka's art is really inventive, especially for the 1960's. I love his use of pop art and inventive use of shadow and color.
Fowl Language: Welcome to Parenting ★★★★★These observations on fatherhood are hilarious. Brian Gordon knows just how to capture the insecurities and frustration of being a parent, along with the fact that children can be real assholes.
Upgrade Soul ★★★A modern day Flowers for Algernon raising questions of identity and human experimentation. The premise is an elderly couple goes through a procedure to extend their lives that goes horribly wrong.
The Black Dahlia ★★This is not really the story of the Black Dahlia, but the story of two detectives, partners, who eventually get involved in the Black Dahlia case.
Marvel-Verse: Shang-Chi ★★A crappy collection of stories Shang-Chi appears in. The one good thing about it is that it does collect the two Shang-Chi one shots that have come out in the last several years that haven't been collected before.
Fantastic Four Visionaries: John Byrne, Vol. 1 ★★★John Byrne's run on Fantastic Four has always been celebrated as THE Fantastic Four run. That's why I was so surprised when this started off so boring.
Fantastic Four Visionaries: John Byrne, Vol. 2 ★★★★John Byrne really begins to hit his stride in this second collection.
Eve #1 ★★★★★Now that's how you do a first issue. I'm completely engaged. It's about an 11 year old girl in a flooded world who has to save her father and maybe the world. Along with her is an android teddy bear.
Dark Blood #1 ★★★You can tell this series was written for the trade instead of the issue. The first issue doesn't really do enough to setup the premise other than the main character is a black man in the 1950's and he has some kind of telekinetic powers.
Save Yourself! #1 ★★A very YA comic that spent more time introducing me to each character's pronouns instead of introducing me to the characters and the story premise.
Grimlock wrote: "It's so tough, I want the One one, too, but I've learned to wait until it's almost gone and see if another comic one I want more comes along. Bidding my time for now, but they're both amazing deals."Get them both. That Oni one has some great stuff too. Queen and Country and Whiteout are both excellent (and it's all of them), as are Kaijumax, The Sixth Gun, Stumptown, The Damned, and Letter 44. Unfortunately, they aren't the full series but just the first volumes.
Humble Bundle has an exceptionally good new deal out for women leading comics from Image.https://www.humblebundle.com/books/le...

We Live: Age of the Palladians - White #1 <--- There's two versions of #1 told from two different characters' perspectives.
Little Monsters #1 <--- Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen's new book. I am disappointed in the lack of watercolors. It's almost all black, white and gray with an occasional splash of color. I've only flipped through it so far though.
Last week's adventures in comics.
Avatar: The Last Airbender: North and South ★★★★The last of the Avatar: The Last Airbender continuations by Dark Horse.
Castaways ★★★Julio and Alejandra meet in Madrid and then 10 years later in Barcelona. The story alternates between the two time periods, differentiated through two monochromatic color palettes.
The All-Nighter ★★★This is about a vampire who is inspired to become a superhero. Once word gets out, other supernatural creatures become villains, using it as a loophole to appear in public without exposing monsterkind.
The House of Lost Horizons: A Sarah Jewell Mystery ★★An Agatha Christie inspired locked room murder mystery peripherally set in the Mignolaverse. Sounds like a natural fit but this was just boring and drawn out.
Tales From the Outerverse ★★★★Three shorter stories, two of which are fighting the Hexencorps, which are these terrifying, cannibal witches.
The Worst Dudes ★The Worst Dudes would be more appropriately titled The Worst Comic.
Radiant Black, Vol. 1 ★★★This falls into the normal schlub gets superpowers genre.
Petrograd ★★★A comic that explores Rasputin's assassination from the point of view of the conspirators. The book follows a British agent, Cleary, who has been tasked with talking a prince into murdering Rasputin.
Legion of Super-Heroes: Before the Darkness Vol. 2 ★★★These stories held up better than I expected. They are from the early 80's, right before Paul Levitz took the book back over with The Great Darkness Saga.
Nightwing, Vol. 1: Leaping into the Light ★★★★★Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo return Nightwing to greatness. Redondo's art is terrific. Tom Taylor brings Nightwing back to his roots while injecting the book with heart and humor.
Little Mouse Gets Ready ★★★★Jeff Smith of Bone fame creates a delightful little comic for the youngest readers about a mouse getting dressed to go out with his mother.
I Am Not Starfire ★★★This. was. fine. It's very YA in its angst and dumbed down writing.
Rose ★★★★The prequel to Bone shows Grandma Ben as a young woman and details what happened between her and her sister, Briar, years ago.
Bermuda ★★★★★This was terrific. I love adventure comics like this. It's got Mysterious Island and pulp type vibes all over it. Nick Bradshaw knocks it out of the part on art.
Shazam! The Monster Society of Evil ★★★Jeff Smith goes retro with his Captain Marvel story.
West Coast Avengers: Assemble ★★★★This collects all of the material dealing with the forming of the West Coast Avengers before they got their own ongoing title. I've always had a soft spot for the WCA.
Avengers West Coast: Vision Quest ★★★★John Byrne takes over the West Coast Avengers and immediately puts the Scarlet Witch and the Vision through the ringer. This along with the next volume Darker Than Scarlet constitute the stories WandaVision was based on.
Hit: 1955 ★★★★Harvey Slater is an LAPD detective and after hours, part of a hit squad that takes care of criminals who beat the system. When an old flame shows up out of the blue, things go sideways in a big way.
Hit: 1957 ★★★The story wasn't nearly as focused as the first volume. Slater heads to Vegas to get Bonnie out of a jam.
Grimlock wrote: "It still went through for me today, re the DC flash sale. I saw it was good until March 2nd as per the official release. from the press release:
But thank you, took advantage of it!"
I saw the fine print said midnight PST on March 2nd, but the blog post said March 1st so I erred on the side of caution. Regardless, I'm glad you were able to take advantage of it. It's a really good deal. I signed up too.
Ed wrote: "I will be reading "Far Sector" as well. I know next-to-nothing about Green Lantern, so I hope this stands alone.."
You'll be fine. It's a murder mystery set in space. It has very little to do with the Green Lanterns.
Lenny wrote: "Chad - the Image Timeline looks so cool! And I hope they bring back Ahmed and Vasquez to continue Ms Marvel - what a shame that they cut off Amulet's development to chase the $$ of promoting her Disney show."I thought the Image Timeline was just going to be a waste of money but I really enjoyed it. Brought back a ton of memories. I would get that one digitally though as the covers and pictures are really small. I'm sure Ms. Marvel will be back this summer when the show premieres. I think it's really important to have a writer who knows about Kamala's heritage write it so let's hope Ahmed returns.
Lenny wrote: "Nuclear Winter Vol. 1 by CAB - yep, I'm jumping on the bandwagon! I loved this and the Giant Days/Futurama vibe - but the evil girlfriend stereotype was disappointing when the rest of it was so creative and refreshing"
I'm glad to see people are enjoying this. I just wish there was more!

Last week's adventures in comics.
The Secret Land ★★★A Lovecraftian love story set at the end of World War II.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation ★★Even though this is a prequel, I think you may be better off watching the new cartoon first and then come back to this.
Compass, Vol. 1: The Cauldron of Eternal Life ★★★Full of adventure, a Compass is a Medieval James Bond and Indiana Jones rolled into one.
The Man Who Came Down the Attic Stairs ★★I didn't even realize this was supposed to be horror until the end. I just thought it was about a mother suffering from postpartum depression like The Yellow Wallpaper.
The Complete Frank Miller Spider-Man ★★★★Collects the few Spider-Man comics that Frank Miller worked on from the early 1980's. Most of them Miller drew. A few he co-plotted as well and one he wrote for Herb Trimpe to draw.
The Official Image Timeline ★★★★This was so much better than I thought it would be. Jim Valentino brings us through a year by year breakdown of Image including back to the Marvel days.
Avengers Assemble, Vol. 1 ★★★★After the horror of Rob Liefeld being in charge of the Avengers for a year in Heroes Reborn, the Avengers have returned to the main 616 universe. For the first time in about 15 years, the Avengers was finally good again.
Champions, Vol. 1: Outlawed ★★Civil War lite.
Magnificent Ms. Marvel, Vol. 3: Outlawed ★★★Ms. Marvel gets sucked into the Outlawed event. It's real boring as it's just Dum Dum Dugan chasing Kamala around town while she tries to save people.
Power Pack: Powers That Be ★★★Power Pack has returned just in time to be Outlawed. Anyone under 21 now needs a mentor to be a superhero. Unfortunately for Power Pack they pick the wrong mentor.
Future Foundation ★★★★It's a real shame this title didn't stick around longer. It was a ton of fun. It got canceled right after the first issue came out.
Avengers: Nights of Wundagore ★★★★Most of this deals with new origins for Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver that survived until recently when Marvel tried to make them non-mutants because of their dispute with Fox over their use in the X-Men movies.
Canavan wrote: "Mike asked: Do you want to hear us chat about this on the podcast?
Yes, I’d really like to hear your opinions on this change."
I would too.
My friends that live outside the U.S. are really upset as they have no way to easily buy American comics now. Amazon's comics display has always been super clunky. If you don't know what you are looking for and just want to browse, it's almost impossible. Finding sales is also like finding needles in a haystack. I always used to use Comixology website in the past to get around Amazon's terribly designed area for comics. I don't really like searching for comics from a tablet or phone because it's much harder to type on those devices.
