Is there a minimum page count for a book to count? And are manga/comic books allowed?"

No minimum page count! Though many manga or comics publish monthly and then combine the year and publish all together, correct? You can choose how you want to count it.

Ashley - yes that counts! All that matters is what date you finished the book, so if you finish on or after August 1, that book counts! What house are you in?

189072 Colloportus, witches and wizards. This House Cup Challenge is now CLOSED.
Congratulations to RAVENCLAW for winning the 2017 Hogwarts House Cup!!
Final reports and Quidditch team allstars can be found in the EHRTBM Hall of Fame.

In honor of the group reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone this year, let's get sorted!

HOW IT WORKS
Go to this great website Pottermore.
There, you can get sorted into your Hogwarts house.

Once you have been sorted, earn points for your house for every book your read!
In this discussion, similar to the Relay Race Reading Challenge, post what books you've read.
Please include:
1. The name of the book you read
2. Read date (must be completed between August 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017)
3. Your HOGWARTS HOUSE!!!

You can join at any time between now and December 31, 2017. Feel free to add all books you have completed between Aug. 1 and the time you joined, or just add books going forward - whichever you prefer.

At the end, we'll tally to see which house has read the most books at the end of the year. See Comment #2 for the current tally!

Suggestion Box (485 new)

189072 Hey all - two suggestions that I've been thinking about/discussion with others that I would love your input on.

1) RE-READING
I, myself, have missed 10 or so of the group reads thus far. I've been trying to catch up this month and still have about 6 left. Been talking to others and sounds like many are in the same boat. AND given that books we've already read keep popping up as BOTM nominations, it seems that many new members would like to read books the group has already read. A few ideas for this...
a. Should we add a third book each month in a new category, maybe call it "Bookshelf Catch-up"? Nominations can only be books already on the book club's "read" shelf, can be either a classic or modern/popular book. That way, at least one book off the bookshelf is revisited every month, giving others another chance to catch-up.
b. Should we have a month sometime this year where we do not read any new books, call it a "freebie" month, and let everyone read whatever they want off the book club's "read" shelf?
c. Any other ideas?

2. Additional Harry Potter Challenge?
Has anyone heard of this site, Pottermore?
https://www.pottermore.com/
I've taken all of the "sorting hat" and "wand" etc. etc. tests. That's all there really is to do. BUT thought it might be fun to have group member's sign up and get sorted into the Hogwarts houses. Then we could have some sort of Harry Potter challenge - how many people in each house read the book next month, as an example? Might be a fun little side challenge. Let me know what you think!!!
Jul 26, 2017 02:49PM

189072 I think that'd be great too! catching up on catching up, haha.
Jul 26, 2017 01:58PM

189072 what does everyone have left? group re-read? haha
Jul 26, 2017 01:32PM

189072 Trying to make my way through all of the book cub books that I missed since starting - 6 to go. Just started this one.
Jul 26, 2017 11:45AM

189072 DO IT. One of my all-time favorites. I will admit that I was the same age or younger than Harry Potter when I read the books so I grew up with them... and became a superfan like everyone else my age. Sometimes if you didn't read them growing up and dreaming of going to Hogwarts people find them harder to get into, or don't get the hype. BUT they are incredibly quick, fun, easy reads so not a major time suck if you end up feeling that way. I don't think you will though.

189072 okay this book is just PURE FUN. games on games and points and collecting magic items I loved it. Never was a big gamer but the few (can count on my hands) times I played I was obsessed with collecting everything. Totally got into this and finished quickly.
