from the EVERYONE Has Read This but Me - The Catch-Up Book Club group.

Most libraries have wait lists for hard copy books - we try to select next month's group reads about a month in advance, hopefully giving everyone enough time to obtain a book and/or get off the waitlist.

There are a lot of doomsday-esque books out there where one piece of science technology is taken to the extreme and played out in book form. One Second After as an example, everyone trying to live WITHOUT technology after an EMP takes out all electricity. Not sure that counts as no intrigue though...

What is a "recommendation request"?
Every month, this book club will be reading 2-3 books. But... what if you've already read the books? Or what if you're looking for something more specific and want to ask the group? Post your requests in this group folder!
How it works
If you are looking for a specific type of book and want recommendations from the group, start a new discussion topic and make the title a summary of your request. Examples:
"Summer reads for the family"
"Audiobooks with good narrators"
"Young Adult standalone novels without a focus on romance"
Some best practices
1. Make sure your topic title is relevant so you get the best recommendations!
2. Make sure to subscribe to the topic once you post so that you will get a notification when others comment/post a recommendation. You can do so at the bottom right of your post (and select the method by which you would like to be notified - email, digest, etc.)
3. Look through the existing discussion topics - someone else may have already requested something similar to what you're looking for!
4. Try to limit yourself to one request per topic so that the recommendations are specific and most relevant to you. Aka don't ask for "Urban fantasy" and "Memoirs" in one post.
5. If you have a book that you've read and are requesting books that are similar to said book, make sure you attach a link to that book's Goodreads page. You can do so by clicking the "add book/author" hyperlink on the top right of the comment box.
Happy Reading!

I think I'm leaning towards have a "Recommendation Request" folder and allowing people to start a new thread when they're looking for a particular type of book or genre, etc. That way people can search the discussions if they have similar requests and people can discuss books within threads that are relevant.
Christine - I think the suggestions for reads would be appropriate in these threads in response to others' requests; or if you want to start a thread along the lines of "I read this AMAZING book, anyone know something similar?" Also, I started the "The Last Book I Read Was..." discussion with your idea in mind - people can comment with recent books they read and loved and discuss with others.
Going to start a trial run folder and see how it works? Once it gets going, would love everyone's feedback on formatting/tweaks/complete overhaul suggestions etc etc
Thanks again everyone!!!

They have already been mentioned, but thought The Notebook, Stardust, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower movies were all significantly better than the books.
