Not sure if it's an exact match (I don't remember the plot exactly) but your description makes me think of I Am the Messenger

If that's not it, is the book you're looking for a picture book, chapter book, or for young adults (teens?)

ABANDONED. Adult/YA? Fantasy. A young girl apprenticed to a witch. There are two, maybe 3 books, and their titles are all one word names of the characters. The witch and girl weave on a loom, and grow herbs. I think it's a medieval setting. (7 new)
