185 Kari, is the Luck series the solution to your search? We love to know because we'll mark this thread as solved and shelve the book for future sleuths.
185 link for Hanna's suggestion:
The Italian's Stolen Bride

I added details to your header -- basically everything you put in your first post. Was this a young adult book or did it have an adult audience?
Also, you can bump your thread every month or so to keep it near the top of the folder where more eyes will see it.

You can bump this book every month or so to keep your thread at or near the head of this Unsolved folder, rather than languishing here on page 34 where hardly anyone will see it. More eyes will take note, and someone must surely know this book.
Good luck!

Do you know which one it was? We love to know for sure so that we can shelve the book on our website and mark the book as Solved. Thanks!
185 Definitely must consider The Kin of Ata... Had a big impact on me when I was young and impressionable.

185 It does sound a lot like The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Is this your book? Please let us know if it is or isn't. .... We crave closure!
185 I also recommend The Woman in the Window as a likely solution to what you are seeking.
Please let us know if this is or isn't your book. We crave closure!

185 I am hesitant to start new shelves, but even putting Romance as a bookshelf. Many of these are romances of various ilk. I don't think we should get too specific about the shelves or we'll end up with 30 of them -- unmanageable.
I'm trying to combine some of my personal shelves because I have too many shelves. :)
