"Unknown HS Election Book, 1980's to 90's

The book begins with a junior year student getting dumped by his girlfriend because he is not academically inclined. The ex-girlfriend starts dating the junior class president. After the junior talks to a former student council member who got kicked out of the council by the junior class pres., the junior decides to run against the junior class pres. for the position of student body president and makes the former council member his campaign manager. The junior begins to gain headway with the students, until an unknown person begins to sabotage his campaign. His campaign manager then goes on a warpath to find who wronged her candidate. This was written in the late 80's to mid 90's, and the edition I read was a hardcover that had a rather abstract illustration of a high school locker on the cover."
