179584 ¡Hola, Lucia!

179584 For now, I would suggest using the spoiler tags and just some consideration when sharing your progress with others. As much as we would like to have threads for each chapter, that would most likely result in total chaos!
Also, I do not believe that setting reading goals within the month would sort the problem out. We all have different schedules, commitments and reading paces, and that's OK, really. Just try and don't spoil the rest. I don't think I have seen many spoilers in the wrong places around the boards. :)

179584 'But it will never change.'

Well, we shall see, whether it changes or not. :)

179584 There's something I wanted to ask you people! When you buy a second-hand book, 100% of the profits go to the bookstore, right? I ask because I was thinking about reading 'I Am Malala' and it is quite affordable at second hand bookstores online. However, I suddenly thought that Malala would most likely not see a penny, and that's kind of sad if she doesn't.
This is probably a super dumb question, but yeah, would love to have someone confirm my fears. Still, I am a broke person and so I cannot afford to buy new books all the time, gah. :(

Reported it as well. That Izard person is just sad.

Right? In this climate of economic crisis, I feel like we have been told a wrong message - 'Things are hard, so you should be happy to survive! If you got a job, shut up about your interests and dreams and be grateful!' Um, no. I feel so scared when I think of a life without fulfilling goals and/or the means to pursue them.

Thread closed. Promotion of personal contents unrelated to feminism and related topics is not allowed.

179584 Well, it is a bit unfair to compare somebody so young to people who are already of a certain age. Maybe this is the start of her dedicating her life to these issues. Maybe she'll choose to address many others in her life. It's what we do all the time. Also, I'm pretty sure she wrote her own speech. But see, even if she hadn't, well our 'experienced' politicians have entire teams to their service, including speeches, and last time I checked they were still there in their posts.
179584 Ugh. I would hope not. So not only you are raped, but you also have to pay money for the baby born from that traumatic experience. No. Not unless he wanted to. You would think he wouldn't.

179584 As for qualifications, well yeah, maybe not a degree in International Policy, but she does have university training, right? So she most likely has a set of transferable skills that come in handy in her daily work. :)
And even if you think that actors shouldn't be playing this kind of role, well, she's far from being the first example of a UN Goodwill Ambassador coming from such background. There's also Angelina Jolie, and most importantly, I am thinking of Audrey Hepburn. I would say they are there because they are people who are concerned about a certain cause and have the platform and following to inspire people. :)
In this sense, I will also say that I believe many people saying 'Emma should do x/y/z' probably do it out of their good intentions and are just excited to see someone they look up to taking their suggestions in fighting for a better world. You'll have to forgive me for playing the devil's advocate here, haha. :-) Also, maybe some of them are already involved in something.
However, you still have a point! Which brings me to shamelessly inserting an ad here, haha - people! There's a thread asking your help in spreading OSS to your local libraries! Now there's something that we can all give a go to! Head there! *whips lash* Now!

PS :D

179584 Camille wrote: "Yes but if books are not yet translate (like My life on the road) it would be complicated I think."

February will solve the problem, at least for some languages I'd say, and we're hoping next months will also have translations readily available. :)
179584 Oh, that's awesome! Hip hip hurrah for Grenoble!!

I come from Granada (southern Spain) and we had something slightly similar going on for a while here in our public transport network. 'Short Stories on the Bus' or something like that. They were small anthologies of short stories by famous local and national authors and you could request them from the bus drivers or at the local public bus enterprise or something. I got to read one or two from the series and while not all of them were good, it was a delightful initiative. :)

Yay, more people! Well, a university library might actually be even more interested in such an initiative, I'd think? :D

179584 Bonjour, Gérard! :)

I have moved your proposal to the Helpful Resources and Group Ideas section just to keep it along other similar threads, but I've been taking a look at your website and it looks nice. Let's see if there's anybody interested. :D

Regards,

Ana :D

Since I have older bones, my recover time is taking longer than I had hoped. I also sustained a brain bleed when I fell on the driveway leaving my daughter's house. I seem to have recovered well from that, but I am still under the doctor's care.

Hello, Mary! It is so nice to have you here. Sorry to hear about your health problems! I really hope everything goes alright for you from now on.
As for the books, please don't worry, I am sure that there are many other people in your situation so you won't be alone in the debate if and when you decide to join. We are close to making an announcement on February's book and again, it will be a pleasure to have you here.
Happy reading and take care! :)

179584 ¡Hola!
