Catching up with this thread! Tim, have you got any news? :)

I met a few interesting people in the last days and will probably try to do something here in Granada as well...with their support, it's more likely that I get to do something cool.

I was also thinking about secondary schools and high-schools. Perhaps some of you stay in touch with yours / are actually still in such a stage and this would also be an alternative way of bringing feminism to the young people. :)

Best of luck for all of you who try and make this happen! :) Nothing new to add to what others said already - a wonderful idea, but live streaming is the key word here, along with LOTS of organisation.

It might be another idea to do general meetups by country - a bit smaller, I know, but also easier to handle. Anyway, as I said, best of luck! Great things start step by step.

Historically, I link the color purple to both the feminist and the homosexual movements, because I have seen it used for/by both of them on many instances.

In my daily life, purple is just an OK colour for me and my best friend' and auntie's first choice when it comes to clothes.

¡Hola, Daniela! Yo soy española, pero es un lujo contar aquí con voces de Latinoamérica, de lo contrario no podemos formarnos una idea completa. ¡Muchas gracias por compartir el vídeo de Chimamanda! En realidad, toda la obra de esta autora está llena de personajes femeninos verdaderamente fascinantes y lo más importante de todo, fuertes e independientes, capaces de tomar las riendas de su propio destino, junto a un hombre si lo desean, pero como su igual en la mayoría de los casos.

No sé si llegar tan lejos como para decir que la violencia machista es el problema más grave en España, pero desde luego, ha llegado a las dimensiones de una auténtica lacra social. Una sola mujer muerta a manos de su pareja ya es demasiado, y desgraciadamente las cifras son muy superiores año tras año. Hoy mismo, una mujer ha sido asesinada en Lugo delante de su propio hijo, quien también ha resultado herido. Es sencillamente inaceptable...y sin embargo, hace días hubo controversia en las redes sociales con la emisión del programa #Machismomata dentro del espacio "Salvados", presentado por el periodista Jordi Évole. Por cierto que aquí os dejo el enlace, si no os importa aunque esto no pertenezca a Argentina.

¿Por dónde vais? Yo tengo el marcapáginas en la página 110...por ahora, espero avanzar en cuanto tenga una oportunidad. Me está resultando más fácil de leer que el libro de enero, más que nada por tratarse de una novela, mientras que en el caso de Gloria Steinem hablábamos de una autobiografía bastante densa.

Tengo curiosidad, ya que yo estoy leyendo el original en inglés; ¿cómo se solucionó el tema del dialecto en la traducción al español? No sé si alguno tiene ejemplos interesantes al respecto. En realidad, el habla de Celie no obedece únicamente a variedades dialectales, sino también a su falta de formación. Por lo que he oído, su manera de hablar evoluciona con ella a lo largo del libro y ese es uno de los grandes aciertos de Walker.

(view spoiler)[No obstante, que la estructura del libro se preste tal vez a una lectura más fácil que el de Gloria Steinem no significa ni mucho menos que el contenido sea fácil de dirigir. El color púrpura es principalmente el relato de unas vidas abocadas a la miseria, la pobreza y el anonimato. Principalmente para las mujeres, por supuesto, pero encuentro que también para unos hombres que están igualmente faltos de educación y que acaban embrutecidos, reducidos también a figuras tiránicas y desgraciadas. Es demoledor ese retrato de Celie: vivir sin esperar nada, ver los días pasar en un torbellino de pérdida y recuerdos rotos con Dios como un remitente que nunca responde. Aunque los que sigáis con el libro ya veréis que quizá sí que haya esperanzas para Celie. ;)
-> El tema de la homosexualidad a través de los sentimientos ocultos de Celie por Shug me parece bastante interesante porque creo que encaja bien dentro del desarrollo de la primera. Celie no tiene un solo recuerdo positivo de su experiencia como hija o esposa, y su atracción por Shug es la expresión de una sexualidad que ni siquiera se imagina para ella, que ni ella misma podía sospechar. Por otra forma, al menos en este momento del libro, creo que Celie no se sentiría realmente atraída hacia otras mujeres. Al menos por ahora, Shug Avery es su único contacto con un mundo de sentimientos, ideas y nociones que Celie solo puede intuir. Shug no es su igual y pienso que ocupa una posición incómoda en la balanza, ya que al fin y al cabo sigue siendo la eterna amante de Mr. _______, pero sí es la única figura, con la excepción de Nettie, que devuelve a Celie un poco de su amor y calidez, y la única que puede salvarla y enseñarle a conquistar su libertad. Isn't it unfortunate that we end up reaching such a conclusion? :( I think that, in many instances, people love to...uhhh, as we say in Spanish, fill their mouths with beautiful words. Love, respect, diversity!! Food for thought from an early age! Then your child's school select a book that makes you feel uncomfortable because it challenges your beliefs / established order and boom, controversy ensues and feelings get hurt.

While we should always ensure our kids read age-appropriate material, this does not equal censorship. Kids who are lacking in different perspectives are badly set for life in a big, ever-changing world.

For now I am doing mostly fine with the dialect thing, it's not that difficult and just like other people said, I can hear Celie inside of my head. However, there's this word that is haunting me haha. What on earth is a daidie?
