Thanks for the link. I usually don't go for sites that recommend books, but I really like this one

174195 Nancy, I love books about books!! Here is a listopia with that exact title: https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/5...

For opposites, wasn't that the multi-year prompt for this year?

174195 So normally, I do have to show residency when I first sign up (but not every year - I'm in CA). But during COVID with things shut down, I'm not sure how they would go about verifying residency. My friend in Seattle just requested a library card and no proof of residency was required. So this may be a positive 2020 loophole.

Edit: to clarify he used his company's address.

174195 Not that it's necessarily a "nice" thing to do, but I'd guess in the US that it'd be easier to get a library card outside of your city/county since it's all electronic and doesn't require documents with your addresses on it.

Also, it could be a nice thing to do because I'm all for increasing library circulation and free access to books for all!!

174195 I actually think astrology is bigger in Eastern Asia (China and Japan specifically) and India than it is in the US. Which was why I suggested expanding it out from Myers-Briggs.

In America we generally know our signs, but most people don't know the full details of their personality as it relates to those signs. We don't generally choose actions, spouses, etc based on these readings.

While I believe it's less popular now in the Asia regions, these used to be a regular part of life before making decisions. I have an Indian colleague who is in the process of being set up in an arranged marriage and astrology is a big portion of who she is ultimately matched with.

Oh good catch Pam! I got the book for Christmas last year and didn't have a chance to slot it in for reading yet. So now I'll hold off till next year. Although I now also want to read A Girl Returned

174195 Oooh I LOVE the Close Calls poll. There were a lot of good prompts in that group!

174195 I have the same Myers-Briggs as my favorite Harry Potter character, Snape.

ISTJ's for the win!!

Would people be more open to it if it was related to various "personality types". This could include Myer-Briggs, horoscopes, introvert/extrovert, etc?

174195 Ugh! I just wish the Warwick Prize started in 2016. I wanted to read Quicksand for women in translation. But excited to see how our Listopia goes out.

Also, voted for 2 of the 3 tops and then was neutral on Tropic of Cancer, but that still works for me! I think I'm going to try to read a book from Mexico.

I'm one of the people that downvoted the food prompt. I know there was excitement about using words other than ingredients, such as stir and spoon, but I actually found that more complicated than just food. I also couldn't think of any books that involved food (outside of recipe books or With the Fire on High which I've already read) or had food on the cover.

174195 Random Question: Is there a way to sort Listopias by what's on our shelf? Or is that one of those randomly basic features that Goodreads should offer but doesn't.

174195 I like “related to second chances”

The latest revision of that was “book that deserves a second chance”.

But if it’s related, it can cover all the topics you listed above. I would think a “second chances book” wouldn’t cover those we had to postpone or want to reread.

174195 We could do the 100 black authors during February for black history month.

The Muslim prompt during Ramadan

And while possibly too political, can do the race/race relations to honor Breonna Taylor’s death (March 13th).

Well that's because all of you mods did a FANTASTIC job! I was truly in awe of the time and dedication you all put in.

174195 I'm getting Goodread notification withdrawals after the excitement of the read-a-thon.

Didn't we have a prompt this year as book related to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan? I think with that one and the three in Popsugar this year, I'm a bit burnt out on Olympic themed prompts, even though it didn't actually happen.

That said, I'm also the small minority that actually finds the Olympics to be incredibly boring and waste of my tv time lol

Tracy, I have a ton of books about libraries! That would be my dream word! Here are a few I'm excited for next year

The Library of Legends, Ink and Bone, Real Murders, The Historian and The Invisible Library

For disease you could also read Love in the Time of Cholera

174195 Haha Martha that great. It is a “birth year” for you!
Sep 23, 2020 07:15PM

174195 You’ve all convinced me on Anxious People. I’ve added it to my TBR!
Sep 23, 2020 06:10PM

174195 Thanks all! I’ll look into those books and lists!
Sep 23, 2020 06:10PM

174195 Also I know the one prompt says the longest, but I don’t know if it needs to be taken so literally.

I think the spirit of the prompt is to finally read that book you’ve been considering for years. I’m sure we all have books that we purchased or added to our TBR a long time ago that we still haven’t read. For me it’s Rules of Civility by Amor Towles.

174195 I’d prefer the humorous prompt as well.

Inspiring and uplifting brings my mind to self help books. Or if I’m thinking broader, as in a book that brings me joy, reading in general brings me joy and makes me feel better when things are stressful.
