My nephew (college kid) apparently watched the Red Wedding and did a fury quit of the show for several months. Only went to the next episode when the new season was about to start.

I think my nephew has experienced the same sort of thing. After watching the show, he picked up and read the books. Luckily for him his mother (my sister) and I can load him up with lots of choices to read.

Chains is awesome.

I only do this on PC. I have a hard enough time with just texting on a phone.

Low Town has been on my to read list for a while. Sounds very interesting. I love characters like the Warden.

Welcome, Tracey!

I recall a friend of mine thinking that the descriptions in the book were a little much. Not bad, just verbose. I honestly didn't notice it much.

I read Magician Apprentice and Magician Master back in the mid-80's. I've always meant to go back and read the Riftwar series, but never got around to it.
Brittany wrote: "LOL so fun to see this moving right along. @Chompa I'm stoked that the books that stand alone after The First Law Trilogy all follow the same world with different characters... I think?"Abercrombie's other books (not sure about the Shattered Sea series yet) have all taken place in the same world. And all of the books have at least one character from a previous book.

I'll do you one better, Brenno. Since you've kindly stepped up and started our group reads, I've just made you a moderator. While I may have started this little shindig, I'm not too knowledgeable about how to do things.

Sullivan is an excellent writer. I don't consider him part of the Grimdark, but I suppose that is arguable. I found his series a very enjoyable read. He's also one of the more personable authors on Goodreads.
Welcome to the Grimdarks, Gandalfgriis.

In a later book
The Heroes, after this trilogy, Dogman and that crew are back.

Nice job, Brittany. I'm sure your voice was the key, not the words.

Hi, Dawn. Go crazy with Locke. Welcome to the Grimdarks.

I'm an e-reader now. I have used the kindle, but it wasn't backlit, so when I got my Samsung tablet, i installed Moon Reader Pro (I highly recommend this app). This way I can read without the lights on. Plus the tablet has all the other bells and whistles.
If I ever bought another kindle, it'd likely be a paper-white (has back-lighting for night), but I'm not feeling that need.
One reason I went to e-readers was putting off my need to reading glasses. I could adjust the font and not need glasses. Now I have fairly large font and reading glasses.

I think it is great that we are all of like mind on the Sansa scene. I was worried posting my comment, but I'm obviously in good company.

Welcome Erin. I'm a fan of urban fantasy myself. Jim Butcher, Harry Connolly and Kevin Hearne are favorites of mine.
We are just about to start a group read of
The Lies of Locke Lamora if you'd care to join us on that.

I spend part of each day adding to a "to read" list that I will not live to complete. I have no problem with this aside from the fact that I always wish I had more time to read. Sigh... work, family, life, etc.
Anyhoo - I was checking out what other friends are reading and ran across this book again.
The Folding Knife From what I've read, KJ Parker is a fit for our Grimdark fan club.
Another book I found this morning, which might not be a fit, but the description of the wizard brother resonated with me in an amusing way -
Rough Magick Currently I'm reading
The Shadow Throne which is the second in the trilogy. I really enjoyed the first book and it is Grimdark, but also referred to as "Flintlock Fantasy", which is apparently a thing now.

Brenno, I'm open on 1 or 2, but probably lean toward one. Looking forward to see how people like Scott Lynch.

Joe Abercrombie has been writing a Young Adult series and I've been patiently waiting for all three to be out before diving in as I know I'll need to read them in a row.
That said - there is a giveaway for Half a King, which is the first book of the trilogy. The 3rd book is due out in July.
