Cripes I fell behind on comments here. 3 Days and 23 comments? That's very cool.
On Elric - as a kid, I couldn't get into him. Now I think Moorcock's writing is pretty interesting.
Perdido Street Station: I read the prologue only and put it down. I will revisit. (I was a little creeped out by sex with a bug lady.)
Stephen King: My first book by him was Firestarter, which I was forced to read by a friend. Loved it. Then The Stand. I also loved it. I've not read a lot more by him (this means I can't recall what I did read). Obviously it didn't stick as well.
Happy Labor Day for those of you in the USA.

Chris, if I recall correctly the 13 year old Chompa said, "It looks like this book is ripping off Tolkien!" This was said in that voice all parents know as "I'm too smart for my own good." I then returned to rereading Tolkien a ton of times and playing D&D (which was very much a nod to Tolkien). I also read lots of David Eddings, Robert E. Howard and Edgar Rice Burroughs to fill the time between rereading Tolkien.
tldr; I may need to read Shannara just because teen Chompa was a self-righteous twat.

I never read the Shannara books, but I might check out the show. I'm not sure why I never read them - they were really popular back in the late 70's/early 80's when I was really starting to get into fantasy.

Welcome Jason. I started the first book of Malazan, but dropped it. I will likely retry it one of these days as so many people think highly of it.

Agreed. Every other month is fine by me.

Somewhere along the line, I had added Acacia to my to read list.

Steampunk Hobo Assassin will be awesome.

I second Brittany's assessment of Stuart's comment about "blowing shit up while scratching their nuts."

This group does contribute a lot to that impossible to read list I keep.

Need to seem some pics of that Brittany!

This is exciting for the Abercrombie fans. He's going to have a collection of short stories out in April next year.
I've read "Some Desperado" I believe in George Martin's Dangerous Women collection of short stories. The stories about Glotka (pre-disfigurement) and Bethod sound really good too.

Hmm... interesting thought. I'm not sure it is needed, but let's see what others say.

I'd be up for rereading Best Served Cold as that is leading last I checked.
I love having a lot of options. The only danger seems to be when we don't get many voters, but that has not been an issue so far.

I've read The Steel Remains. A very interesting book and it was good. A strange mix of fantasy and sci fi.
That said, I've not read the rest of the series, but someday want to.

Thanks putting up the poll, Deborah! Nice work.

Saga is an amazing book. At least the first 15 or so issues.

I've read a lot of Simon Green. I have read all of his Nightside series and a lot of his Secret Histories (I like urban fantasy stuff in addition to Grimdark obviously) I'm actually excited to see there are more books than I recall in Secret Histories.
That said, I gave Hawk & Fisher a try years back and it didn't click. I need to revisit it at some point as I love the premise/setting.

Hi Terrica, you have the right idea about Grimdark. Welcome to the group.

I like the idea of the poll. I also share Kieron's sentiment. How many unfinished series can I possibly start? The answer seems to be a shit-load.

All of these authors mentioned so far and the majority of the books have been on my to read list. Low Town and The God's War are probably the most appealing to me even though neither are technically "fantasy". I agree with Silvana that Grimdark is more important than Fantasy in the selections.
