Someone has to fight against the stuffy Lord of the Ring Elf stereotypes!
154447 Some people that I thought would really want to read my books, never have.
Some people that I thought would never want to read my books, have.

The furiously blushing straight boy asking when book two comes out because he "Needs to know what happens in the story"... made all the hard work of writing the books worth it.

154447 We thought it was doing well... the colour on the cover had been improving steadily all day... but... I am afraid last night... *holds back tears* that... we realized... in the middle of the night... that... it... that it... it... squeak... *Eyes tell everything that needs to be told*

*The entire waiting room explodes into blubbering tears*

"But it was so young!"
"Oh, the humanity!"
"I just read a page... yesterday... at lunch."

Okay being serious now... uh... hmm... I actually had a real thing to come and say, but I have completely forgot what my original point was.

154447 Remember to take screenshots of things when they go well.

End up on the Amazon top 100 list for your category? Screenshot!
Sold 7 books in one day? Screenshot!
Was on a book newsletter? Screenshot!
Got a hug from a bunch of people on GoodReads? Priceless.

154447 Awe! Countdown buddy! *Hug!*

The countdown is still on for a long time yet! Remember, it is still not done work time on this side of the pond for most!

154447 Never say never. :)
Colour can be useful inside an eBook. I still believe this.

Just be mindful of tone. If it switches to grayscale on some readers, then be prepared for it still being legible in grayscale!

Here is my latest attempt at colouring an eBook.

Well, someone needs to edit that title! :D

154447 I can only see one book I have written in my Author Dashboard panel thing when it is on the side of the home page... over there! I need to click it to see other books I wrote? I was expecting that when another book was added that my string got longer and longer and that eventually I could bask in the amazing glory that is nothing by myself on the sidebar.

Alas, just one book. And it looks like a random one? Or something? I have no motivation to fill it up anymore!!!

Side note: This is amazing. Also try to make your computer sing rap songs. Always a guaranteed good time!

154447 Just to add...
4) If you write yourself in a corner, write in a bulldozer and show that corner who is boss. They will never see it coming!

154447 He ate the rocks. He ate the trees. He ate the lakes, the mountains, and the sky. He ate the sun, the moon, and the stars. He ate everything, but he was not full.

154447 Side Note: Fairy is generally associated with all types of fairies. Sometimes individual creatures are called fairies, but if there are multiple types in one book then I would avoid calling the little winged people Fairy as it would get confusing.

Sprite or pixie would be what to call them in that context, to not upset the goblins, grigs, and brownies!

154447 I've also seen it multiple ways.

Personally, I would use Fae and Faery if the creatures are more old fashioned. If they have to do with the Unseelie/Seelie courts, if they are an ancient old magic in a world gone crazy, or if the time setting was further in the past.

I would use Fay and Fairy if the creatures are more with the now. Tinkerbell and her new friends, Navi from Legend of Zelda, or anything for children.

Either is fine really. It would be interesting to see a novel where there are old Fae and new fay battling each other.

154447 W. - Red is the complimentary colour to green. They are used together all the time during Christmas.
Red harmonizes with purple and orange.

When designing with red, you treat it as a dark colour, which is why there is so little contrast between red and black. Red is visually almost black to our eyes thanks to its wavelength.

Red on black is hard to see.

154447 That depends on if it is a fixed layout epub or not.
I don't even know if regular epub files do colour, I really won't think they do. The reader controls that.

but fixed layout ones are whatever you want them to be.
I only use colour as a very light background, I'm very colour blind sensitive as I know someone who is quite colour blind. he checks all my books first.

154447 I sure do.

All of my main characters have associated themselves with a colour.

- It shows up as an accent on their armor.
- It reflects a bit in their personalities.
- It is the reason why one character is 'broken' and in the story (they couldn't pick a favourite).
- It shows up later in book two manifested as additional characters.
- It allows other characters to express subtle emotions to other characters without mentioning them by name.
- It is a spoiler for book 3 if you can break the odd colour code in book 2.
- The main character gets upset if things that should be in proper rainbow colour order are not.
- It lets me brand and market the characters.

Also, recently I am writing IN colour as well. My short stories are only eBooks. They can be in colour, literally, for the same cost as they are on a screen and not printed. Literally writing in colour now. It is great fun!
