154447 Clyde is right. "Tried" sounds weak. His options are better.

I like #1 best.

154447 Gallows humor makes light of things that are often taken seriously, such as death, war, illness, misfortunes, etc. I use it sometimes. It can be therapeutic.

Like Julia, you seem to have set up an account and joined our group for the sole purpose of telling us ReadersMagnet is legit, yet offering no real proof.

To be honest, this makes me even more skeptical. Your profile is set to private and you joined the group today, it would seem for the sole purpose of responding to this old post.

154447 Twain, Dickens, Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, and many others were just as deadly in their narration as they were in their dialogue.

Ah... so, sort of a John Cougar situation. Record label makes you take a cheesy name 'cause they think it'll sell more records. I like that!

There's a third option. Do it yourself. That's the one I choose. I'd hate to turn over the fun of editing and proofreading to others. I enjoy it.

154447 I still don't really get the line that says, "Although heaven is the last stop..." and then goes on with an option. It's the words "last stop" that seem to be a problem, since there seems to be another stop if Michael chooses. Also, the first "thanks" should be capitalized.

I would lose the sentences, "Readers of My First Ten Days in Heaven are those who enjoy pondering the meaning of life. Doesn’t matter what you believe about God; if you like smiling and an insight or two, you’ll like this book." I don't like being told I'll like a book. I want to make that decision for myself. It feels like you're desperately pleading for an audience. It's clear in the first paragraph that the book is about heaven, God, etc. Let it be what it is. There are, after all, non-religious people who read the Bible and there are religious people who can't stand reading about religion. Let the customer decide if this sounds interesting to them or not.

154447 Honest reaction? I liked it except one thing - I really stumbled on the name Gary Rock All. It's a bit too bubblegum for me.

154447 If you're shooting for 100% error free, you'll probably never be done. Generally, when I finally give a book a pass and nearly all the "corrections" I'm making are no longer spelling errors, correcting punctuation and the like, but changing the wording 'cause something sounds slightly better worded a tad bit differently, I'm done. You can tweak forever and never be fully satisfied.

My favorite novel. I cannot remember any parts in the third person, though.

154447 It's good, but has a few problems.

I'm not sure what is "unfortunate". That Michael feels good, that he's dead, or that he's in Heaven.

What kind of choice does Mike have? Due to the first paragraph, I'm inclined to think he may want back out of Heaven, but if it's the "last stop", isn't he stuck there, whether he likes it or not?

I'm not sure I would take Pete out of this completely, but I would definitely mention him in another place. Perhaps tack it in after you say Mike has a choice.
154447 Reworked it a little for those of you who obviously were not teenagers in Iowa in the eighties...

It's 1985 and seventeen-year-old Ben Starn has taken a job working in the corn fields, again. He has often said it's the easiest job in the world. However, this season he and his crew experience bullying, torrential rain storms, sexual assault, a strange field that seems to defy logic, and a boss who is both immature and irresponsible. And that's just in the first week.

It can't get any worse...
