You don't say how long ago your free period was, but your book hasn't been out a month, yet. You have to give people time to read your book before they review and not everyone reads a book the minute they get it. Be patient.

I guess it all depends on what you want to have happen. I have free books from time to time. I don't mention it anywhere. People download them. I usually see a few sales in there too.

154447 We have our other group for promotions, bill. This one is for discussion, that one is for promotion.

"...if it falls in the hands of religious, bigoted types..."

This is not the place to be mocking religion, just as we would not allow people to mock the non-religious. Keep in mind "religious" has multiple meanings and is not always synonymous with bigotry.

154447 J.B. wrote: "Well said, Jacqui. Why is it so difficult to support authors? Facebook and now Goodreads."

Well, this is not Facebook, nor are we Goodreads. We're a group within Goodreads. We offer support by giving Indies a place to vent frustrations, ask questions about marketing and so on, give a forum to have their book covers and blurbs critiqued, and several other things. Our companion group SIA Showcase allows members to self-promote. We do have a Facebook group, a website, a newsletter, and so on, all containing useful and helpful info. Is there some other way, beside allowing people to bookwhack all over the place, that we could offer support?

I helped write the policies, bill, and know them very well. Could you elaborate on what is bothering you?

154447 I deleted it J.B. It was self promotion.

#3 - No self promotion of any kind.

I believe it was in the Promotional Resources folder, which states:

"This folder includes helpful topics on the subject of book promotions. Posts may only be started by an SIA Moderator. Member-initiated posts will be deleted. Make sure to read the rules for each thread prior to posting."

So, I'm not sure why you're confused as to why your post was deleted.

If you want to promote your service, please join our other group. https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Even though we do allow self-promotion there, please be sure to follow the rules.

154447 Emmanuelle wrote: "And then my husband tells me it's a simple romance novella and I don't need all that..."

*grumble* Maybe you don't need all that, but you WANT all that and it's your book. I bet there's an audience for a complex romance novel. Keep going!
154447 Seth wrote: "The trouble is you still need to tell people that they are available. Without using social media, how do you manage that?"

When I decide I want to buy new books, I don't spend much time on social media hoping to find ads for books that sound interesting. I go directly to Amazon and browse. If I see a book that looks interesting and the price is good or even free, I'm likely to grab it up. I have a theory that that's actually how most people who are interested in the kinds of things I write find new material to read, too. So, I don't "tell" anyone I'm offering anything, I just let people find them on their own.
154447 All I really do these days is toss out free short stories now and then. I barely do any marketing at all. I'm getting more action and more sales than when I was doing marketing. We're not talking about huge numbers of sales here, but it has been an increase.

This is what is working for me. It might not work for everyone.
154447 I don't use them to get noticed. I follow them to see what new Indie books are out. I don't market on social media anymore. I've tried it and it's a waste of my time.
154447 Okay, but generally if someone is following one group like that, they're probably following several, meaning it's very likely they're seeing a lot of posts from you. I only follow two or three and I often see the same authors posting in all these groups.

India had some sound advice up there. Slow it down.
154447 Back when I actually attempted to market via social media, I put up one or two a day at most. When I see the same ad for the same product every ten minutes, you bet it gets blocked.
