152458 Happy Thursday! I'm comforted to see that I'm not the only one who looks forward to checking in with everybody each week. (Also Thursday is grocery day so it's a good day.) Hope everyone had a good holiday if Easter is their thing.

Finished reading:
The Host 5 stars
I watched the movie about a year or so ago and really enjoyed it. The book was enjoyable and cute.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane 3 stars
Short and intriguing. I finally read something by Gaiman

Blood of Elves 5 stars
I watched this on Netflix and it was awesome, although I think this book happens after the show. I've been waiting since January for the ebook from the library. The characters and the world are awesome like Game of Thrones. It was neat that this series is translated into English.

QOTW:
Definitely reading what I feel like and ignoring any plans for challenge prompts.
152458 Why is this an advanced prompt? It is so easy.
I ended up going with The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman.

Upright Women Wanted 2 stars
This is a short novella that took forever. It started off promising and then nothing happened. I think it's because it's a western that I got bored.

To Hold the Bridge 3 stars
Getting an anthology by a favourite author off of my 2020 tbr list. The first story was set within my favourite series and it was awesome. Everything else was okay or boring.

Crush the King 3 stars
Series ender that I've been impatiently waiting for. It was a comfort read for sure.

DNF:
Hidden Figures
This book is making me angry because the author's writing style. I loved the movie and that might also be why I can't get through this book.

First thought was never never never quarantine with Duddy Kravitz.

I'd love to quarantine with Murderbot but she'd kill me for talking in the movies.

Good on you for your sewing skills. I am very much unskilled at sewing and crafts in general. I tried to make a mask with folding and hair elastics as seen on the news. It was a fail.
37 - A western (280 new)
Apr 04, 2020 10:09PM

152458 Just read Upright Women Wanted and it is a western. I wouldn't recommend it though. The beginning had promise but then nothing happened and it was very boring. I used it for the trans/non binary prompt. So unfortunately I still have a western to read. I plan on reading firefly related books to fill this prompt.

152458 Happy Thursday. We have reverted back to winter. Yesterday I was hurting to go somewhere but grocery day wasn't until today when the wind is brutal. On the bright side it keeps people staying indoors.

Finished:
Twenties Girl 4 stars
This was a comfort reread for me. I hadn't read this book since I first got it in 2009 so I didn't quite remember that it was as good as it was.

The Raven Boys 2 stars
I made myself finish this book and I'm mostly glad I did. This book has mixed reviews from the reviewers I follow, but it's popular ya so I was curious. It had a good ending that kinda makes me want to read the next in the series.

Nemesis 3 stars
Book 4 in the Harry Hole detective series. This book seemed to take forever to read but it still was enjoyable.

A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo 5 stars
I'm a John Oliver fan so this has been on the tbr for a while.

Pumpkinheads 4 stars
Pretty cute story. Just try and read this book and not want a snack though... it won't happen.

Moon Called, Volume 1: Issues #1-4 & Moon Called, Volume 2: Issues #5-8 5 stars
A favourite book in graphic novel. Once again clearing off items on my tbr list.

QOTW: My favourites usually come from TV and movies.

"I am so smart. SMRT" Homer Simpson
"Fire at will." Independence Day
"My bad" Buffy the Vampire Slayer
I also make decisions by going "and you get a car, and you get a car" Oprah
Some quotes I love have been posted already too.

152458 Happy Thursday!

It definitely felt like the longest week of my life; I am struggling to figure out which day it is. That being said I am extremely grateful to be healthy and that the people I care about are healthy. Tomorrow is the planned trip to the grocery store and then I can restart the worry for a new week. Anyway reading, trying new recipes, Disney movies, and bright coloured socks are huge for taking my mind off of life.

Finished:
Red, White & Royal Blue 3 stars
This was super cute but it somehow lagged in the middle and I had to push myself to continue for a great ending.

Son of a Trickster 4 stars
A great sarcastic main character who over comes a lot of tough times, and hopefully life will get better for him throughout the trilogy. I will be continuing this series.

Daughter of Smoke & Bone 3 stars
This kept being recommended to me so I gave is a shot. It pulled me in right away but then it got tedious. I was happy that it was a unique story as promised. I'm not sure if I'll read the sequels.

Shout 5 stars
Due to the Popsugar challenges I've been reading some poetry the past two years despite hating it. I'm shocked to discover that when I don't have to write an essay or dissect line by line it can actually be interesting to read.

Funny, You Don't Look Autistic: A Comedian's Guide to Life on the Spectrum 4 stars
This is a big library read in Canada right now so I gave it a shot. Got some good laughs and learned a bit about autism. However, it drives me nuts when Canadian authors have to spell the word colour wrong.

Currently Reading:
Nemesis Book 4 in the series.

152458 Basically you can just read YA fantasy and accomplish this task. They have a lot of king and queens.

152458 Title: Children of Virtue and Vengeance
Author: Tomi Adeyemi
Have you read any other books by diverse authors that you can recommend? Just read Son of a Trickster by Eden Robinson and it was great. It's the start of a trilogy and book 2 in the series was a Canada Reads contender.
Would you recommend this book? This was book 2 of a series and I liked it a little better than the first book.

Some covers are only words and other covers have upside down shadows between the letters. I used it for the tv show with the same name but not the same story prompt. It also deals with greed; wanting a different life then your choices led to. Hope this helps.

152458 Hey all. Hope you and your loved ones are well.
Instead of venting I want to share something very positive that is happening where I live in Canada. I went and donated blood today and was happy to find it busy, and it has been busy other days. It was really great to go and help support the health care system.

Finished:

Deadly Class, Volume 5: Carousel 3 stars
Volume 4 ended harshly so this volume followed a different character. It managed to have a happy ending compared to the other volumes.

House of Earth and Blood 5 stars
I was very impatient for this book and it blew my expectations out of the water. I've read over 50 books this year and it is my favourite of the year so far. This book is over 800 pages and I spent multiple nights reading until 3 and then not being able to sleep because I wanted to be reading.

Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood 4 stars
A biography of growing up in Iran during the late 70s and early 80s in graphic novel. I recognized this story from when it won an academy award, it has been jumping out at me at the library the last few times so it got added to the book stockpile. Also this book knocks out a lot of prompts for pop sugar and other challenges.

Smoke Bitten 3 stars
I really love this series. It was one of those books that ended too quickly and you wonder if that is due to the publisher setting word count limits.

Red, White & Royal Blue Started off so amazing but the middle is dragging. I want to use this for pink cover challenge so I'm going to carry on.

All I can think to add is to google the Guttenburg Library where you have access to loads of free materials due to being public domain. It isn't as nice of setup as ebooks for reading but if you want to read older things they're free.

152458 Happy Thursday.

Read:
Ninth House 3 stars almost a 4
This was an interesting start to a new series. I've seen mixed reviews for this book and I wasn't planning on reading it any time soon.. but it looked at me in the library. Leigh Bardugo can make great characters for sure.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely and A Heart So Fierce and Broken 4 stars and 3 stars respectively
Book 2 of this series is a book club book this month. Book 1 came in from the library at the perfect time and book 2 was available when I finished. Both books follow two characters and go back and forth between perspectives. For both books I liked only one character. Book 2 ended well and I'm excited for the 3rd book. (Why do I keep liking Beauty and the Beast retellings when I don't really like Beauty and the Beast?)

Big Mushy Happy Lump 3 stars
This graphic novel was disappointing because I loved the first one so much.

Alone in the Wild 4 stars
Favourite author alert. Kelley Armstrong writes really awesome characters and her urban fantasy series are awesome. Alone in the wild is the fifth installment in a mystery series. I used this for set in a country that starts with C; Canada. This was hard to put down and I read it real quick.

Currently Reading nothing yet, but I'll being starting Red, White & Royal Blue soon.
