152458 Happy Thursday! I believe it's friendship day so I wish you all a happy friendship day as well.

Finished Reading:

Alpha Erased 2 stars
This series is finally done yeah. This just was tedious to read because the one character was whiny and depressed for the first half of the book.

The Wrath and the Dawn The Rose & the Dagger 5 stars
This duology was great. A ya retelling of Shahrzad that both the author and main character had the knack for story telling. The second book had some good twists too.

A character I love to hate... does Harry Potter in book 5 work?
Also Jude, Carden and Tarryn from Holly Black's The Folk Of The Air series. Can't wait for the book in November!

152458 Title: The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires

Author: Grady Hendrix

Would you recommend this book?
No! I would not have finished this book if not for this challenge. The author is a good writer though. I don't think I could have got so mad if the world building and characters did not feel real. The first half was so griping but then the main character kept making choices that were just so wrong leaving me mad. Also I needed more vampire content considering the title.

Are you a member of a real life (or virtual) book club?
Just a couple on goodreads.

Would you enjoy being part of the book club in this book?
No, the women in the book club read only true crime which is not my preferred genre. Also the 80s/90s white suburbia racism and sexism were always impossible to ignore and thus think well of the characters.

152458 Happy Thursday! What a difference a week makes. I am much happier and less anxious. I think reading a few 5 star books helped. Don't forget that ice cream has eggs and milk in it giving you dairy and protein. Personally I prefer coffee and chocolate because they are vegetables.

Finished Reading:

The Empire of Gold 5 stars
This was a great ender to the series. There was a lot of humorous bits and many unexpected turns. I had to push to finish this book before the library took it back. I recommend this series because of good writing, characters, and plot twists.

The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line 5 stars
So now I need to binge the first 3 seasons and track down the next book.

QOTW:
Usually I have the reverse problem. I hear the wrong thing and realize it when I read it. For example I thought it was tequila mocking bird and mustard point until I saw an actual copy of the book and signs for muster points. I'm usually pretty good at knowing correct pronunciation because I didn't really read as a child except for reading out loud at church and school. I think it is also stems from the way I say words in my head as I read instead of envisioning the meaning. My sister is the opposite and I correct her a lot.
I have never heard wescut before always waistcoat. I watch a lot of BBC so I'm so confused now.

Ooh, I read one of that series this year and it never even clicked. I think it works because she works for companies testing their cyber security, she just doesn't have formal training.

152458 Happy Friday! I got back late yesterday from taking my grandmother to health appointments. It was very frustrating to see the receptionist allowed to not wear a mask yet she let people enter without them and then made them wear masks?? I realize phone communication is extremely difficult while wearing a mask but she wasn't staying behind her plexiglass the entire time. I wish my province would put mandatory masks in place now so that when winter/flu season hits everyone is used to them. However it's an election year and they're right wing on the political spectrum so it's not going to happen until people start dying again. That being said I do recognize that making masks mandatory means they have to figure out how to enforce it but health care organizations across the country want this. Anyway it's been a tough week because covid has spiked here again and I just read about a business that has potential community spread the day I went there. The person was at the business after I was there so it's all good but it really freaked me out.
Okay no more grumbling from me. The weather here is perfect and I got to visit family I haven't seen since Christmas and highly anticipated books came in.

Finished Reading;

Lunar Court 3 stars
One more to go in this series.

Wolf's Bane Wolf's Curse both 5 stars
Kelley Armstrong went back to the world she created that I love. New characters with old favourites on the side. The original series is adult but we followed my favourite character's teenagers in these. If the titles aren't obvious the main characters are werewolves. These books are set at a summer camp for supernatural teens so I got to knock off that popsugar summer challenge.

The Shadows Between Us 5 stars
Needed to read this before the end of the month for book club. What a surprise. Yes it is YA fantasy that seems generic but I still really enjoyed it. The main characters are not great people but they are entertaining.

1. I didn't really read until recently so I've never really taken a book anywhere interesting.
2. I can't focus on audio books I just tune out without something to look at and/or touch. Besides my first love is music and any opportunity to listen to music I take it. That's why I read so many ebooks because I can have youtube run while I read.

I'm a big fan of Sophie Kinsella and this has been sitting waiting for me to read it. I was worried that I was growing out of her books but I reread Twenties Girl and now this.

Persepolis 2: The Story of a Return 3 stars
This was less of a story then the first book. She just took events/people to inspire each chapter.

Alpha Unleashed Shattered Pack Being Alpha All 3 stars
So overdrive bought the next four in this series. They're cute and easy on the brain.

Hmm. Well the world of Harry Potter for sure as long as I have magic. Most of what I read is fantasy so the worlds would only be good to visit if you had special powers. I also read dystopians... so covid is bad enough.

152458 Title: Cocktails for Three

Author: Madeleine Wickham

Would you recommend this book? Yes if you like the shopoholic series or anything by Sophie Kinsella. Sophie Kinsella is the pen name of Madeleine Wickham's.

Was this fiction or non-fiction / was this a real journalist or a fictional journalist? This is a fiction book about three women who are journalists at the Londoner. Also the author is a former financial journalist.

Would you have read this book anyway, if not for this Reading Challenge? Yep, I bought it at the library sale because I wanted to read it.
