I read it in April with the group read. It was okay. It ended well, but there wasn't much of a story. It really did read like a D&D game where the mission was to build a coffee shop."
Interesting. Sorry you didn't enjoy it more. Having never played D&D I wouldn't be aware of any comparison.
"2. What are your expectations, if any, of this book?
I read the little short story at the end of L&L and it was the best part of the book. So I'm hoping this one will have an actual plot."
Fingers crossed that this will be more enjoyable for you!
"3. Would have chosen to read this book if it wasn't selected as a Popsugar Monthly Group Read?
Probably not."
I hope that is a good thing in the end! π

1. Have you read the first-published book in this series, Legends & Lattes? If so, did you enjoy reading it?
Yes, I did. I LOVED it!
2. What are your expectations, if any, of this book?
I can't imagine Baldree matching my enjoyment of L&L with this prequel, but I am hopeful that he will!
3. Would have chosen to read this book if it wasn't selected as a Popsugar Monthly Group Read?
Deifnitely!

there are two different kinds of polls that GR lets us create. The "regular" poll is the default. A "book p..."
Huh. I'll see if I can edit it for that...
ETA: Actually, it has worked for others to add write-ins, so that evidently was not the problem for you, Jennifer! Goodreads has been doing screwy stuff for me both yesterday and today... I swear Bezos just bought it so he could make it not work very well!!! LOL

And, after looking at the Listopia, I had no idea Blackout would qualify! I've been wanting to read that one badly!

That is a lot of poetry! Congrats! Is it listed on Goodreads?

The advent puzzle is interesting. The puzzle is divided into a grid and all the pieces for one day fit together so it's pretty simple. It only took about 5 or so minutes to put them together. I'm going to enjoy seeing the puzzle come together. It's a struggle to stop at one box/day!"
See, I would never just stop at the one grid! LOL No self-control!!

I will create a January nomination poll later today and it will be available through ...
Lynn, how in the heck do you add linked books to the polls?? I want to nominate We by Yevgeny Zamyatin for January, but I don't see how to link it, and I don't think most people will know it by title alone!"
There should be an add box just like there is above these comment boxes. However, when I tried to use it it wasn't working. Since I created the poll I can add books and it did let me edit the poll and do that, so I added your book! If anyone else has similar trouble, just message me and I can add a book. Goodreads has been giving me fits today.

I really want to read her book but didn't realize she was technically included in the Rock 'n' Roll genre! Thanks for this!!

Wow

I really appreciate your comments! Nadine and I are both grateful for your patience and gratitude! I hope these prompts will compel some impetus for more member participation in 2024. That would be such a nice reward for the efforts we ALL make as members!! The more the merrier!! LOL πππππππ€
Personally, I found myself totally enthralled working with this year's challenge prompts! I admit that occasionally it became somewhat of a slog with last year's challenge. Particularly as I prepared the Monthly Group Read listing! I am extremely grateful for whoever created this year's challenge because I consider it to be very exciting and...well...challenging!! LOL π

I will create a January nomination poll later today and it will be available through Tuesday, December 12. Then the January final selection poll will be posted Wednesday, December 13, and available through Tuesday, December 20. We will know the January Monthly Group Read title as of December 21! I realize that doesn't allow much time, but it is what it is. π
I am personally extremely excited about this year's challenge! Kudos to those who worked on it! I tried to do it justice by researching to discover some more obscure connections between a month and a prompt! It was difficult to narrow it down since I ended up with at least 2-3 ideas for every month. I tried to avoid some of the more general/obvious connections since we have a much more unique listing of prompts to consider this year!
So YAY!! I am trying not to do much planning until January, but I'm sure I'll 'cheat' and keep peeking every now and then at the listopias and comments for each prompt! I don't often *squee*, but I am now!!

This might be the way to go. I am not a fan of horror, but if I do social horror it might work better."
Oh, my, yes! I hadn't even considered this for that prompt! But The Trees by Percival Everett is one I meant to read and have not done so yet! Thank you guys for discussing this!!

Transgender Awareness Month! Transgender Awareness Week November 13-19, leading up to Transgender Day of Remembrance on November 20! Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was founded in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998.

Every person reads at a different pace, so please use spoiler tags if you are sharing any plot-related surprises. This allows others to decide whether this information might reveal surprising information they have not yet read. It can also be helpful to other readers if you post the location within the book noting your progress (chapter and/or page number). That way, if someone else has read that far they can go ahead and open the spoiler, but if not, they'll know to skip it for now and return later...
