And how exciting! You must be so thrilled to see your mother. I just came back from my mother's today morning and I already miss her and my brother so much!

Sorry for the delay. Here's the link to the next month's genre challenge thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Sorry for the delay. Here's the link to the next month's genre challenge thread: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

April is just around the corner and so is the second (of the three) Alternate Genre month. For this month we have two genre options to choose from as there are few readers for each of these genres as compared to the other more popular ones (hence the choice.) Please pick 1 genre and announce in the comments below. Or if you really want to, then feel free to pick both and read 2 genres for this month. It's your choice.
There are absolutely no limits so you can interpret this genre in its broader sense and include other similar genres and/or subgenres that you feel might have a wee bit of similarity with the main genre. You can also include books that are not particularly centered around the main genre but has its components or elements somewhere in the story.
The main intent of this challenge is to incorporate different kinds of books and genres in our normal reading routine to make the experience more fun and entertaining. Please do not lose yourself in the technicalities as we all know how literary genres can be confusing.
If you have any doubts or questions, then post them below and we'll be happy to answer/discuss them.
Following are the DEFINITIONS for this month's genres:
Young Adult Young-adult fiction (often abbreviated as YA) is fiction written for, published for, or marketed to adolescents and young adults, roughly ages 13 to 18.
Young-adult fiction, whether in the form of novels or short stories, has distinct attributes that distinguish it from the other age categories of fiction. The vast majority of YA stories portray an adolescent as the protagonist, rather than an adult or a child. The subject matter and story lines are typically consistent with the age and experience of the main character, but beyond that YA stories span the entire spectrum of fiction genres. The settings of YA stories are limited only by the imagination and skill of the author.
Themes in YA stories often focus on the challenges of youth, so much so that the entire age category is sometimes referred to as problem novels or coming of age novel. Writing styles of YA stories range widely, from the richness of literary style to the clarity and speed of the unobtrusive. Despite its unique characteristics, YA shares the fundamental elements of fiction with other stories: character, plot, setting, theme, and style.
Short Story/Poetry Collection: Simply put - Anthologies: Collections of smaller works which may be short stories, essays, or poems.
Anthologies may be a blend of different authors following a central theme or genre, or else a book of short stories compiled by the same author.
These can be Fiction or Non-Fiction.
Here's a quick summary of the levels:
Level 1: Casual Reader: 1 book (easy)
Level 2: Frequent Reader: 2 books (moderate)
Level 3: Bookworm: 3 books (mildly strenuous)
Level 4: Bibliophile: 4 books (strenuous)
Level 5: Bookiopath: 5 books or more (challenging)
Please mention what type of books you'd be reading:
PB: Paperbacks
EB: E-Books
AB: Audio Books
Please feel free to announce your to-read books along with the level you are targeting for below.

Dagny: That's great. You'll have the book in time.
I received my book last week itself, so I'm also set.

Hello Leina, welcome to the group :)
I'm a huge Sparks' fan too!! And I love Instagram as well.
Nice to meet you!

Thanks a lot, Cheryl! I love the blurbs of these two books. They're exactly what I need right now!
Thanks again!

I'm so shattered because of what happened to Davy Ray. But I loved how the author showed the entire scene and it was so heart-warming.
Cory's way of coping was also shown perfectly.
I'm done with the book and I must say that this is probably the best book I've ever read! Thank you, Cheryl. I don't know how can I ever thank you enough for introducing me to this book and author Robert.
I'm thinking of reading Swan Song next. The paperback copy's pricing is outrageous on Amazon.in, so I'll get the e-book. Will be starting it by the end of this month as I'm afraid if I start now I won't be able to get anything else done.
Question: I was curious if you know any more books on small towns (like where people live in small towns.) I need it for my book's research. Any creepy book where the town is a villain will be super awesome! Please let me know.

Yeah, setting a limit is a bit off-turning. I'd hate to have a min limit myself. I'll join you all next month :)

I'm afraid, I won't be doing this month as I've received some work that needs to be done this month. And anyways, I'm not getting good books to read for this month. All the best to you guys and I hope that you all like what you read. :)

I've started reading the part where Cory and gang go to the carnival. They've just entered the Freak Show and I'm so excited.
But I wanted to talk about other parts I loved before this:
I loved the part where Little Stevie saves Cory and his lover from drunk Donny.
I loved the entire scene where the Sherrif, Tom, and Moonman along with the fireman (forgot his name) fought against the Blaylocks. It was one hell of a scene!
Also, I love how Rocket keeps on saving Cory again and again and how it is shown to have a mind of its own.
I have to say the part about rebel really creeped me out! Also, it made me wonder how Stephen King's Pet Sematary had a striking resemblance to this small scene.

I also loved how Cory had a crush on Chllie Willow. That was so sweet... AndI loved this quote a lot - "Pain was nothing to a man like me."

This book is not listed on Goodreads, but here's the link to my blog review: https://thereadingbud.com/2017/03/01/...

Sorry to hear about your issues. Life's not always peachy, I guess.
And I agree. I'm seriously loving the writing style and the acute descriptions plus the really detailed observations...
I've reached the part where Tom's helping the townies build the dam to stop the flooding.
The tall guy with the green feather freaked me out!
For a second there when Cory falls in the muddy water, my heart skipped a beat!! Then I remembered that he's the ine who's narrating the story. Lol.
I have to sleep now but I can't seem to put the book away...

The writing is pure gold! I can see now why you said this book was somewhat like SK's... I LOVE it!!! And I can't wait to read more and more...
Cory is such a delightful and adorable child. I feel so sorry for him already that his innocent belief in his lovely hometown will be short lived... I feel so sorry for his friend too. How I wish I can unread Chapter 3. But alas...
Thanks, Cheryl, for introducing me to author Robert McCammon. I guess this book is gong to be the first of many I'll be reading by him. Thank you, again!! <3

Will start reading in the afternoon as Vishal will be out of town. Hoping to get 2-3 chapters done today...

Since there is no set reading schedule for this buddy read, how do you want us to handle spoiler-type comments?"
Hmmm... I guess we can discuss minor spoilers, but not major ones as it'll be a huge disappointment since you've said that the writing style is similar to that of King. I definitely wouldn't want to know if someone's dead or something...
I'm getting the book by 3rd so I'll be starting it soon. Then if a lot of people won't join us, we can discuss the book however we like. :D
