I was FLOORED when I found it! Someone recommended it to me and I was so excited. I check it periodically to see what's been added. The covers are lovely too!

I mean, sure. lol

I feel all of this in my soul. I often use: Standard Ebooks - it is a volunteer-driven project that produces new editions of public domain ebooks that are lovingly formatted, open source, free of U.S. copyright restrictions, and free of cost.

I looooove it. So pretty!

I've been trying to buy physical copies of classics this year, just picking them up when I see an edition I like, because, sure they are free and all online, but... I think physical books are becoming more and more important.

139735 PS - I have been searching for a fun edition of Frankenstein to have on my bookshelves, and I decided on this lovely one. It's so pretty!

Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

139735 My recommendation is:

Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley
Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

It's one of my favorite books, and it fits the October vibe (and bonus genre). I may also read it, because it's been more than 6 months since I've read it and I do so love it.

Also - it's FREAKING FREE - and that is great!

139735 Ok Team - NO TOWEL THROWING -- let's start with ✨ New Quarter Bonus!
📚 Q4: Book Recommendations Exchange

Spread the love of reading in Q4! Each team member may recommend one book per month to another teammate. The goal: read and discuss each recommendation within your team.

It needs to be a book you've read, not a series, and you recommend it to the entire team. I don't see a downside to this. If no one reads the rec, no harm. If they do - extra points!

🎯 Points:
Readers earn 20 points for each recommended book they read and discuss by the end of the month.
• Each team member can both give and receive a recommendation, so you can earn points for reading all your teammates’ recommended books.
• Maximum: 1 recommended book per teammate per month.
139735 I think those were great Jenny!

Mixed-media / multimedia books – books that blend photos, drawings, documents, or typographical play. Example: S. by J.J. Abrams/Doug Dorst

Choose-your-own-adventure / interactive fiction – old-school CYOA books?

Epigraphic or play/script format – some scenes in script-like form, but you could also try a full-on play in book form.

Serial / episodic apps – like reading something on Wattpad, Serial Box (now Realm), or other serialized storytelling platforms.

🎃 October Author Appreciation Series | Haunted Pages & Gothic Echoes 🕯

As the nights grow longer and the air sharpens, October is the perfect month to sink into stories that unsettle, enchant, and haunt us. This month, we’re leaning into the Gothic and the uncanny — haunted houses, ghosts of memory, futures on the brink, and vampires dripping with drama.

And we’re trying something new: each week will feature multiple ways to join in — universal questions (even if you haven’t read the author), hot takes to debate, wild casting chaos, nostalgic flashbacks, and mini-games that link our weeks together. Think of it as a literary séance: everyone brings a candle, and together we summon the conversation. 🔮📚

October Lineup:

• Week 1 (Oct 5–11): Shirley Jackson
– Haunted homes, uneasy families, and the quiet dread of the everyday.
Week 2 (Oct 12–18): Octavia E. Butler – Futures on the edge, survival, and transformation.
Week 3 (Oct 19–25): Toni Morrison – Haunted legacies, memory, and the weight of history.
Week 4 (Oct 26–Nov 1): Anne Rice – Velvet vampires, Gothic witches, and Halloween excess.

Your turn: Who’s your quintessential October author — the one you always crave when the nights get colder and the vibe turns spooky? Drop it in the Weekly Author Appreciation Thread and let’s get this month started. 🦇
