I completely forgot about this BR!
Have you started or read this one yet?
This was hard to read. Let me know when you start and I'll pop in to chat.

I got about 50 pages in yesterday, but then I remembered that I have to write BOMs, so I switched. It is a harsh start for sure. The way Charon county is described is eerie and so so wrong. I think I will like the book though.
I think I liked this book a lot more than you did. It was harsh, and hard to read, but I fell in love with Titus. I thought he was such a wonderful imperfect character. It reminded me a bit of early Karin Slaughter books, in that the writing is great, and the stories are bloody and gross and compelling.
This one was harder in that the subject matter as well as the killing aspect was harsh, but I thought that aspect was done really well.
My question, well, one question I have is how the hell do creeps like that find each other?
I mean, I know I found other book lovers by logging on to GR, but if I decided I wanted to hook up with someone who was into child abuse and torture and the like, where would I begin?
Don't answer that. I know that it is the inter webs. Or something as despicable as that religious oiranization that was in the story. Yuck. Just yuck.
Anyway, I am surprised I liked it so much as I have been trying to read books lately that make me forget about how horrible the world is right now, but I was just taken in by the story and the characters and the writing.
Oh, I liked the book! I even added King of Ashes to my TBR after finishing this one.
I agree with all you said! Titus is the character that you can believe is 'real' - he isn't perfect but he is very likable. The subject was really hard, but also really well written.
I didn't put it together when I was reading, but it does remind me of Karin Slaughter now that you mentioned it!
