135229 Glad you enjoyed it. I think it would make a great movie. :)
135229 I am probably one of the last people in this group, perhaps one of the last people on the planet to read the Harry Potter books. I have to say, that they are work for me to read. It's not that they are difficult. They just really aren't my thing. I had to push myself through this one, until the last 100 pages. I loved the last 100 pages!!!! And those last pages made me want to read the rest of the series. I don't plan to read the fifth this summer, but I do plan to read the rest, eventually. :)

135229 Have you been watching John Green's appearances to promote the movie? He was on CBS Sunday Morning and on the Today show too! :)

135229 This may be one I should put on my "to read" list. I'm not much of a fantasy fan, but a good book is a good book. :)

135229 The Yearling is a book on my top ten list. it was assigned summer reading between my eighth grade and freshman years. I remember spending an entire day on the couch reading this book and crying. And, I was bawling again this morning as I finished reading it. I took a class at Miami this past semester, and one of our assignments was to create a personal text set of ten books that have shaped our life. This book was easily in my top ten because it marked a transition for me as a reader from reading only young adult page turners to reading the classics. I will also never forget my grandfather, who grew up in Mississippi, telling me that this was his favorite book because he identified so strongly with Jody Baxter. This book is often referred to as a children's book, and while I think it is an easy read and may be a children's classic, it is a beautiful book for all ages. Marjorie Kinan Rawlings won the Pulitzer prize for it in 1939, and reading it as an adult gave me a new appreciation for the book.

I'm not sure this is a book for everyone, but if you enjoy the outdoors and hunting and farming, The Yearling may be a book you will enjoy. It is beautiful and heartbreaking. Penny (Ezra) Baxter, the main character's father, is one of my favorite fathers in literature. He's different from Atticus Finch, but for me, Penny Baxter ranks alongside Atticus as an ideal father figure.

135229 I read it when it was first released and it lives up to every bit of the hype that surrounds it. :) Totally agree with your review. If you like John Green, I think you will also like Rainbow Rowell if you have not already read her books. ;)
135229 Great list! Cold Sassy Tree is one I need to add to my list. I've wanted to read it for years! Maybe this summer I'll get to it too. ;)
