I got it on Kindle so I'm ready to start it whenever we wish.

My library has a lot of copies but tons of people on hold ahead of me. I may break down a buy the kindle version.

I always say a joke is never great unless someone loses food laughing! (Seriously, I've really said that.)

I'll plump for Murdered Gentlemen as well. (That didn't come out exactly right, did it?)

We read a Dickens mystery some years ago as well.

We have read one or two of the Kate Kingsbury book here in the past. Set in Victorian times at a guest house at Christmas, they are very "Christmassy" and also good reads.

I'm also fond of the Ellery Queen TV show from the 70's. In one of the DVDS, there is a brief interview session where the ultimate failure of the series is discussed. This same group was responsible for the far-more-successful Murder She Wrote. I have some of the Radio shows as well, including some Nero Wolfe.

Pghfan here. One of the few men in the group. The "Pgh" should let you know that I am in Pittsburgh. Totally love the books of Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers and a whole lot of other "classic" mystery writers. I do participate in the discussions of the current "cozy" mysteries most of the time, but not this month's. Tina and I have been long-time compatriots in these discussions which started on the A&E discussion pages, now long gone.

I don't think I'll say who I got, but it wasn't Selleck. Probably because I am a baker (and foodie.)

Well, Jill, I have zucchini-banana bread in the office this morning, for my co-workers. Come on over!

I finished the book last night. I guess I was OK with the solution but the only real clue was why Tom was so vehemently against much of the Pumpkin Fest and especially the dive into the pond.
As was noted, there were a lot of things that seemed to be present just to show us that Lucy is a regular housewife with regular problems, though it seemed a bit excessive to me.
The thing that really got my goat was the treatment the family received when they came to arrest Bill. Clearly over the top, in my opinion. Having Patrick put up his hands? Really. Later in the book when Lucy was asked whether she was going to press charges against the police who did that, she declined. I would have done so even without having the question asked. The only reason I can imagine she did not was that, being a reporter, she might need police help in the future.

Wow, I've been into this next section but didn't get around to joining the discussion until now (and I'm done with the section, too!)
In no particular order, I generally don't read the synopses right off, but sometimes do if I've let the book drop for awhile and then pick it back up.
Yes, Ev certainly had a green thumb and also a very decrepit house as well. If he and Bill were such friends, I wonder why Bill didn't know this?
I am a little annoyed with the state cops and the way they have handled the investigation so far, but frankly, if Bill was so stupid as too tell them all he did in his second talk with them, he deserves the suspicion he has created.
I also agree about what kind of parents would leave a four year old for four months to go to the Congo (or anywhere.) And also to leave such a restrictive set of rules for Bill and Lucy to follow! Of course, very little of that is being followed anyway, but there will be heck to pay when Mom and Dad come back.

I do like the Halloween theme so far, but we are now getting into things involving spousal abuse and I'm not happy about that. I hope we don't focus on that much. Still no body and I am close to being done with this section.

Well. I'm a few chapters in and no body yet, but I know from the cover jacket that there will be one soon. I have to admit I immediately dislike Heidi.

To my great surprise, the book came to my branch through our inter library loan this morning, and is now in my hot little hands!

I'll step in when I get the book. I don't expect to have it by the 28th, though.

I am fortunate that here in Pittsburgh, we have a great library system. Dozens of library branches, including one a short walk from my house. And there is an on-line ordering system that will get any available book from any of our locations and deliver it to my nearby branch!

I just ordered this from the library system. They said there are 35 copies and that 5 are available, so I should have something shortly. Given that it is so new, I hope not to have a problem. The book was $12 on Kindle which was more that I wanted to pay for something like this...

We did read one of Louise Penny's a few years ago and it was enjoyable. I think I may be in for Candy Corn, depending on how easily I can rustle up a copy.

I knew that Lucky and Elias would end up all right. It did seem like this was unnecessary to the story. On the other hand, the ultimate solution of who-dunnit was certainly not something one could figure out. Especially that Joe wasn't Joe after all. And it was sweet how the pumpkin carving contest turned out.
