Yes, It seems that John didn't want to talk about it (or even think) at all. After hypnosis, he remembered. I don't think crazy people could do their own thing in ordered places like the military. But, maybe the military training does not aware of what damages they cause. They try an idea and the project failed, so they try another.
You're right, he did not connect his past to the notes. I'm not judging him too. He tried to over difficulties, so he couldn't back to those memories.
This was a good thing you mention, "everybody helps solve the criminal case". There wasn't a hero, just ordinary persons.
Carolyn, I very like to be in those underground tunnels too! :) we have subway tunnels here but, I think these are different.

The history of the book was interesting. " Ian did not know he was writing a mystery! "It works good for me, his personal and knowing John is good. I hope his other books save this narration.
John's favorite book and I is the same, how happy I am. Haha:) Crime and Punishment. I expect more referring to books in next Ian's because John liked them. It's very interesting to me the main character is fond of books.
Trick and tests in special forces were very awful. This made soldiers sociopath, I think it's the wrong way for training which hurt other innocent people.
The murderer works at the library. Some people always seem harmless. You know, like the taxi drivers, policemen, and librarians, I liked the idea where he camouflages. Also, the fake name was Ian knots that were a very engaging idea too.:)
one of my favorite "Truth was always stranger than fiction, and nobody was ever wholly innocent."

I just starting chapter 13. I really should write more, but it is a little difficult for me. Maybe because English is not my first language. The idea of writing about books started when I wanted to avoid straightforward sentences in my papers and conversations. I should more attention to detail and develop my thoughts. As I read this book in English, it's easier to write about.
I'm glad you enjoy it so much. A very good read indeed. I'm so eager to reach late-night chapters.:) I wonder why nothing said about the three murders so far, it's very strange for a detective book, I'm almost in middle but no information about the murders. Although I liked the way Ian Rankin presents Rebus. All his thoughts about war, her daughter, his past which tries to forget, and the boys who try to getting attention.
Something is very wrong with his brother. The first they met, the way he welcomed John, I should have figured out earlier. :)
The story of anonymous letters is interesting, who is doing this? The serial killer or the reporter Jim Stevens? Although it seems not likely Jim could do, he just a stalker. Also, he obviously on the wrong path, because he thinks John is with Michaels in illegal works.

I prefer the stories without the internet and all that too. and being in Edinburgh is so interesting to me. I'm in the beginning, but till now, it is easy to read and enjoy it. I am happy you find it funny, I'm sure will love it. Nice quote, Carolyn.

Anne Shirley goes to Redmond College, new adventures. The immersive and charming settings. I love Patty's Place.
BUT
Anne is kind but, she is changed and not imaginative. I think, don't know her anymore.
Phil is extremely annoying. I wonder how Anna could like her.
I use to love college life books, something like a Daddy-Long-Legs (she wanted to be a writer, too), But there aren't any similarities so far, nothing about the college itself.

Thank you, Carolyn. It's a very good idea <3. my e-mail is tondkarshirin@gmail.com

I liked the new characters, Dora is a sweet girl, Davy is uncontrollable. I think Paul is a little boy version Of Anne, I enjoyed his imagination. I want to imagine Matthew with new children, miss him a lot. I was very fond of him in the first book.
I saw Leeane mention being out of character for Anne to kill animals herself, I felt exactly the same. She looked more sentimental about everything.
My favorite new character is Mr. Harrison, sorry for him losing Ginger. I'm not sure about his wife.
And about Miss Lavender, I liked her name and her imagination. But she was careless to her maid, Although she liked her lady too much. As Carolyn said it's very offensive that she doesn't learn all the names of the family of sisters who live in her home.

It is good to warn, I saw a few people labeled Avoid-animal-harm or mentioned in their reviews (Carolyn you always do that😉), this is very helpful.

I am happy to see that Anne is as the little Anne. I thought she get older and change but she is still positive and funny. Apparently, Davy is going to do the worst things that Anna didn't do. lol

You have my deepest sympathy, I wish you the peace that you seek.
then I'll try to get to you with Anne.

Thanks, Carolyn. I have the epub version of "Knots & Crosses" (an Edinburgh cop, I like to try book set in Scotland) and "Cover Her Face". So we have four books in common to start.:) I hope you will have happy reading, It's how bad I didn't read 2rd book sooner.
