125611 I will start "Except The Dying" as well today. The short story was enjoyable, I hope we enjoy this one too. I get the book a few days ago, so I'll read it in Persian with you. Happy reading everybody!

125611 I don't think the little girl was too annoying, at least she convinced soon to give up the story that wasn't for her ages and see her cartoon. :)
Maureen needs to let us know about Bill, his daughter, and his granddaughter. as a short story, she did it. But I think you're right!" I liked to see a little bit about William's descendants in the future but thought". I liked to know about Bill himself or maybe even his parents.

"We knew William was cautious and affected by an alcoholic Dad but very close to his Mom." Did I miss something? Do we know that? Why didn't I notice? :)

"We love and need our parents at any age." Thank you for your beautiful comment. I hope you and Ron have a good time by the lake and find perfect books. <3

125611 Well, I have finished the story! Short read. The story about Bill, his daughter, and his granddaughter was sweet. Quickly problem solved. I'm not sure I could call it a problem, maybe curiosity! Or we could simply say that they have sharp minds and saw the details.
I wonder if the Priest is in another book or not, there was so much about him (as a very short book), and there is a little information about William Murdock.
Overall I liked it. In both stories (Bill and William), have been tried showing love and sympathy.

Carolyn, I read your email and appreciated it so much. I'll reply to you in the next few days when a few things are order (internet, pc and all that). Yesterday, I moved to the new place with my cats and few necessary appliances. We still have some works here and there till moving completely. My cats are examining every centimeter here. :)
I check my email and Goodreads with my cellphone but probably answer with delay in this week. again thank you, and I wish you the best and a happy year on Canada Day! <3

125611 What great news! very happy to hear about Marigold. 😍😍
I wish your Dad a speedy and easy recovery. 🌻🌼
Happy birthday to dear McCartney! 🧡💛💚💜

125611 Dear Carolyn, I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm sure Marigold will recover soon with medicine and prayers. I'll pray for her health and for you to be strong and fight.
I heard about some medicine dry food called Royal Canin, for kidney disease (Renal). It's French food, do you know it? It's the best dry food that we can find it here. I used dental Royal Canin and saw positive effects.
There will be a miracle and I wait for her recovery and good news.
Your friend, Shirin.

125611 Thanks, Carolyn, for clearing up a point for me about Tracey. And yes, Holmes and his girlfriend are nice. Hope to see them in the next book. I wasn't a fan of other characters in the first book but, these two are fine. :)

The ending, no, I didn't like the end. But, I think it's realistic that criminals get away because of their relationship, money, or government job.

125611 I distrust Tony. I make a guess that he is guilty of a crime. It does not matter if one ... Wow, Carolyn, you understood! I thought something wrong with Charlie and Tracy but never paid attention to Tony. :)
Pay for sex from poor, drug-addicted, and dogfighting all was quite embarrassing.
Was that man involved in another crime? Was his death a suicide? ... at first, I thought this is another frame for murdering but, we know he kills himself for the shame of his pictures or maybe blackmailing.
No ex-wife and, I'm glad we see John with no breakdown. :)
The book's name was surprising to me. Cause there is no person's evil side, just a club called Hyde. I looked to recognize a psychopath the whole time. Parently, there were more than one, people who do anything to join the club and for what?! money? Lived in a better place than a flat! Amazingly had no sleeping problems.

125611 Hi Carolyn. I start the Thursday chapter!
I completely agree with you about spirituality and obsession. Yes, killing people in the name of religion is lacked understanding. I'm glad this book is not a crime as imagine earlier. The story seems to drop the evil idea.

I should confess, at the beginning of the book, I didn't understand "hide" could mean "Hyde" :). But, when John speaks with the boy, then ring a bell!

I got used to seeing, people getting so close so fast in books and movies. We care to know about our friends, even their parents. Maybe some kind of people even in my country act like this book. But, it's not common, doesn't it?

I read this book in English (none of Ian's books translated), and my version has no number or something to split parts. Sometimes it's confusing when switch. I see you don't have it either. I thought something is wrong with the none-paper version.

I like that the story is told from a different point of view, individual people. John and Holmes work on the same case and investigate; they misunderstand their behave. Holmes didn't want to introduce his girlfriend to John, and John thinks about business matters only. Reminded me that we can't judge people only by their actions.

125611 I am on page 54, chapter Tuesday (190 pages version). John now picked Dr. Jakyle and Mr. Hyde.
The crime is not about children, that's true. But, I think this book has more detail which is more disturbing to me (in comparison to the first book), Occultists and someone was going around poisoning junkies!
Many characters have changed. I'm new to them. So, it takes time to start thinking or judging about them. Till now, I'm not very comfortable with Tracy.
I didn't read your details about the story. The start is strong (as in the first book), there is a crime and probably a serial killer who should be caught.
John is still John.:) He gives up gifting the book to his friend. I do the same sometimes.:)

125611 Hello Carolyn and Kerri!
I read the book in English. Although I wasn't as punctilious (especially with the words) as you were, Carolyn; struggled to understand the whole. :) I'm happy you mentioned that words and explain the differences.
Henry's fear was described perfectly. Someone with a split personality trying for control of one of his own, the all-time war between good and evil. one of my favorites:
"The evil side of my nature, to which I had now transferred the stamping efficacy, eas less robust and less developed than the good which I had just deposed."

I saw the title after your quote. :) I like to read the second book soon. But, if you don't mind, I like to finish "Wings of Fury" which I currently read (interesting mythology!), then whenever you'll ready, we start it.
Apr 13, 2021 10:52PM

125611 Yesterday I finished the book. I thought it was slow narration at first. It seems Stevenson could be referred to make more tension and horror do that. You don't know what's going on, who is the mystery man, or what is his relationship with the honorable Dr. Jakell.

I think cause we know about the relationship between Hyde and Jekyll made it less Horror and Suspense. But, maybe we can categorize it as a mystery, horror, suspense, and fantasy which in its time was so creepy. I'm not sure I could guess they are the same person If I didn't know anything about the book.
Apr 09, 2021 12:56PM

125611 Yes, Carolyn, I read at night before I sleep, in the days when I turn my laptop on, If my cats wake, they always like to sit on it, or if they want to play, scratch my papers or books.:) I'm glad you told us about your memories and your place (nice proverb :)).

I now finished chapter 3. I think for a short book, it's too late (one quarter) that nothing happens, and apparently, the story isn't known yet. But maybe it's just because I hardly understand the sentences. :) Yes, Carolyn, there are new words for me, but the phrases made it hard to read.
Apr 07, 2021 09:56AM

125611 I read whenever I can, during the day at home or on my way, But sometimes in busy days, I can't reply for one or two days.

Carolyn, It's very amazing you live in such a natural place, my parents love اouses in nature.
I'm so sorry to hear about the bird. That's very kind of you to take care of animals, especially in the cold.

"The Strange Case Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde"
I'm currently read chapter 2, a little odd! But, it is just a beginning, I wait for more, to write about it.
Apr 06, 2021 01:02AM

125611 Great! I added it to my reading list and I will be happy to read it whenever you start.
Apr 03, 2021 01:52PM

125611 Dear Carolyn, That's very kind of you. I really appreciate it. I'm sure your mother was a lovely and great woman. <3 That is amazing your family worked on mines!
I think the well-known mines are in Northwest Territories (state?), one of the biggest diamonds, a giant yellow diamond (about 550-carat) belongs to the Diavik mine!
Apr 03, 2021 12:33PM

125611 Dear Carolyn, thank you for your clear explanation. Amazingly, you started your third language at a very young age.

Scotland is very interesting to me. Highlanders in movies have a great accent. :) I'm recently reading a book about a Scotland family, it is so good so far. It great to know we'll start another Edinboroghs book soon.

As a geologist, one of the most amazing countries I really eager to see is Canada. You know It has an old plate, excellent geography, fantastic mines, concrete, and water purification industry. Especially the diamonds. :)

I find the epub Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde, It is good because I can read in English. I'm not sure when I will find a paper copy, so I will be happy to read it whenever you and Kerri be ready.
Mar 30, 2021 04:27AM

125611 Amazingly, there are two languages there, you know English and French, two main languages! :)
We just use Persian here. Of course, for university research, we need to know English. You know my aunts live in turkey, we watch Turkish movies and series sometimes, and I study Turkish with some application. All of this helps me to learn Turkish.
We live in the Capital (Tehran). People have other birth languages or very different accents in other cities in the south or north of Iran. But, they all need to learn Persian in school.

I have seen a few caves on university trips. Alisadr cave in Hamedan was the most amazing one I ever saw. It was so enormous, We should pass through it with boat and paddle.:) The water was freezing in summer. The high roof with amazing stalagmites and stalactites.
Thousands of years of history are fantastic. But, I think new lands have their advantages too. They can be built, and probably people wouldn't stick with the old wrong beliefs and traditions.
Mar 29, 2021 03:17AM

125611 I'll try to find a copy of "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde" and The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne. Certainly, we need Dr. Jekyll before "Hide and Seek". :)
Mar 29, 2021 03:07AM

125611 I understand Turkish (If someone speaks), and I can speak a little, but I can't read books, just know few words to write or read.
It seems to me hypnosis is trespassing to mind, but I think John wanted it to remember.
Then, Carolyn, I suppose we are not a cheater at all. :)
