Have you completed January's Take It or Leave It Mini Challenge?Leave a comment with the number of the challenge you read and the book you used to complete the challenge on this thread. Look for the high scores in February's Take It or Leave It Mini Challenge - which should be available by Friday, February 3, 2017.
Happy readin' y'all!
Hello! My name is Jennifer and I am a moderator for this group. I run one of the mini challenges.I love reading - I will read pretty much anything. My favorite author is VC Andrews (before she died but I still read anything with her name on it). My favorite genres are Romance and pretty much anything in YA/Teen fantasy, sci-fi, and dystopians.
Welcome, Becky! 3 is a good number to start so far - I think we have only had 3 weeks this year - so you are right on track. Keep working at it and mostly have FUN.
I started a book set in Maine - but it was soooooo boring I gave up. Guess I have to find something new...
Welcome, Holly! So glad you are here... until the site is set up you might create a bookshelf here on goodreads with the name 2017 52 book pickup...I log all my books on goodreads because it is so simple - my log for this year is Read in 2017... Good luck and have a wonderful trip around the National Parks.
Please remember if you have ideas for a Take It or Leave It Challenge put your suggestions on the Take It or Leave It Introduction thread... you will also find directions on completing the Mini Challenge.
Melissa wrote: "This is my first year doing the CPL's 52 Book Pick Up, and I'm excited to get started."Welcome Melissa! Delirium was a good read - and part of a series. If you like it you might enjoy the rest of the series also. 7 books is an ambitious list and I understand not having a lot of time to complete it. I generally read 5-8 books a month - mostly right before bed - and while everyone else is watching TV... and in between work, PTA, and other community organization obligations. Good luck - in reaching your goals!
I'm thinking of trying Vanity Fair - we will see though... I haven't read anything else on this list so far.
Kayzee wrote: "Well finally completed one challenge, #5. The Copperdust Hills by Richard Clarke which I started on New Year's Eve Eve. Now I'm taking a crack at #7. The First Wives Club by Olivia Goldsmith."Yay, Kayzee! Congrats for completing one challenge so far and good luck with your second challenge!
I have completed three books so far this new year and only one challenge - I super need to get another challenge completed!
Joanna wrote: "Woot! I've actually completed three of these challenges already! And Scrappy Little Nobody has a blue background behind Anna Kendrick's photo. Does that count? "
Yes it does! Three down four to go....
I have only complete one - Number 5: Get on it already... I started Rules of Contact right before Christmas - I wasn't really into it and so it took me a while to get through - but I have high hopes for January!
Nathan wrote: "We'll see how many of these I can actually get through this January, but it doesn't hurt to set a target. :-)"Welcome to the challenge and good luck!
I hope you get to Chew - it was a fast read and I really enjoyed it! I think I may need to reread and get caught up on it though.
Hi everyone! I'm looking forward to this year's 52 Book Pick Up. Last year I finished the year off with 104 books read - my goal is always 75 but I enjoy seeing what you all read and your thoughts on those books. The first mini challenge of the new year has been posted - click here to see how it will work.
You can find all the mini challenges under the 2017 Mini Challenges thread.
This is the FIRST Take It or Leave It mini challenge for the new year!
I look forward to seeing which books you read to complete this mini challenge should you choose to participate.
This months challenges are:
1. Baby it's cold outside: Read a book with a word in the title that is a synonym for cold
2. Television Shows: Read a book that is part of a series that has been (or is about to be) adapted into a TV show
3. How I met your Modder: Read a book with a 5 star rating from a moderator's read shelf
Joanna
Jennifer
Rekesha
4. Star Wars: Read a book with either "Star" or "Wars" in the title but not both
5. Get on it already: Finish a book you started before January 1, 2017
6. The gift of reading: Read a book that was given to you as a gift
7. The book I'm looking for is blue: Read a book with a blue cover
Don't forget to post what you are thinking of reading and what you have read to complete the challenges.

In order to get points toward bragging rights and notoriety post your completed challenges and books by February 3, 2017.
Welcome to a new year and a new mini challenge!
This year I will be hosting a Take It or Leave It challenge.

1. Each month there will be several Take It or Leave It challenges to choose from
2. Each challenge will have a description with how you can complete that challenge for the month
3. Choose one, all, or none of the challenges for that month to participate in (hence the Take It or Leave It name)
4. Read books that fit the challenges or see if books you have already begun reading fit into an challenge
5. Post which challenges you have completed and the book your read to finish that challenge
6. You cannot use the same book for more than one challenge
To shape this challenge into something a little more interesting – for every challenge you complete each month you will get a point. Sometime at the beginning of the next month I will post the scores from the previous month. There will be no prize for this except for bragging rights and notoriety.
If you have an idea for a Take It or Leave It mini challenge share them on this thread. You never know when your idea may be included.
Lyn wrote: "I've finished the challenge,I'm on book # 73,I'm enjoying the new Bookshots by James Patterson.any word if we'll do this again in 2017?"
Congrats Lyn! Hopefully we will do it next year - but I haven't heard any details
Nathan wrote: "Scott Sigler's Infected..."That was an interesting read - I couldn't read it before bed because I had seriously weird and frightening dreams...
I just finished book 104 :) haven't reached what I read last year which was 118 - but so far I'm pretty close - I may be one or two more in this year...
Reading Twisted Perfection - by Abbi Glines - I only have one more book of hers to read and then sadness until a new book comes out.
Nathan wrote: Always be yourself. Unless you can be Batman. Then always be Batman. "Ha - mine is - Always be yourself. Unless you can be a unicorn. Then always be a unicorn.
I totally did this challenge last month - I read Me Before You and then watched the movie. While I enjoyed the book the most - it helped me understand the characters better and I felt more invested - and the movie felt a little choppy - I will admit that I cried harder in the movie than in the book. No spoilers here just know that which ever you decided to go with for this one or even if you do both - it will turn you into a sob and snot monster.
