[..."Oh that would be an awesome audiobook! I find Patrick Stewart's voice so soothing.

I read
The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent for "This". As someone who is a Pagan, this touched home deeply for me. I've studied the Salem Witch trials extensively over the years and it definitely touched on the harrowing ordeal that all of those people went through. I definitely was crying by the end of the novel for spiritual ancestors who were victims of fear mongering.

It's oddly titled, because it actually focused more on the stories of Clytemnestra and Cassandra, all taking plac..." I'm glad you said this because I looked at Elektra for my retelling choice. I'm like you, I enjoy retellings but I really want to see something new done with it instead of just using the same myth that has been told a thousand times over. I'll shelf that book for a while then, lol.

I am several days late, lol. But I read
The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo for This. It's a modern take on historical Chinese in Malaysia. Their funeral rites and their myths were very fascinating. I may end up doing a deep dive to learn more. I am very much interested in the idea of hungry ghosts.

That: I read The Au Pair by Emma Rous. The author not only grew up in England but also in Indonesia, Kuwait, Portugal and Fiji. I randomly picked this book at my local thrift store, and I think my best friend would enjoy it. It's more her style of book than mine but no less interesting however I had the book figured out by chapter 10, lol.

That: I chose to read
The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow and oh my goodness, this is an excellent read. It was a little slow in the beginning but eventually, it became a book that was very difficult to put down. Bring on the book hangover, oh boy.

Oh that is awesome, thank you so much for sharing!

I did both this month:
This: NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. I can honestly say that I prefer Joe Hill's writing over his fathers. It is more concise while remaining interesting and the characters have a greater appeal to me. Which are things I've struggled with while reading Stephen King's novels.
That: I read Vespertine by Margaret Rogerson. I'm writing a book that has similar themes to this novel so there was some great inspiration for me from the novel.

Oh, you're most welcome. I'm glad that you and others participated.
I've posted the new This or That for next year and hope that you and others stick around and join in. :)

This: A book that was turned into a movie or television show.
Or
That: Pick a book from a shelf of someone you know.
