This: A book with a cover that you find beautiful.
That: A book with an author that has a 3 letter first name.

I chose That and read
Genesis. I was worried this would have Second Novel Blues, but it ended up being awesome. It gave a good look into the past and how the house ended up with a demonic portal in it. If you like spooky novels, definitely recommend.

I chose This and kind of cheated, but they had to travel to get to the place so it counts. The book was called
From Below by Darcy Coates. I loved it, it's become one of my favourite books. It's spooky and thrilling. Perfect for me when I'm reading outside of my review novels.

I chose That and I read
Angels & Exorcists: The Rosary's Rejects Book I. It was an urban fantasy indie novel, and I was a little worried it would become one of those cheesy urban fantasy, supernatural novels, but it didn't. In fact, it was really well done. I also very much liked that it was an LGBTQIA+ inclusive novel, featuring two transgender characters as well gay relationships. So I definitely recommend giving it a look at.

I chose This and read
The Inhabitants. It was a mixture of creepy house, seemingly nice neighbours turned psychopathic, creepy ancestors and helpful, protective ghosties. It was a perfect modern gothic horror.

This book was just shy of 500 pages but it still counted. I chose and read
The Witch of Cologne.
This woman lived in a dangerous time, where the simplest and honest deeds such as being a midwife, especially to women often of another belief system could spell imprisonment and often death. I loved that despite her beliefs and her education (she dressed as a boy to receive education), the main character Ruth lived her own life and she faced everything bravely. I definitely giving this a read.

I chose That and picked
The Haunting of Blackwood House. I really enjoyed the main character Mara in this. She grew up in a household filled with the occult and was the biggest skeptic, even when purchasing what the small town considered a haunted house. Even when she was presented with said hauntings. She held nothing back and did her best to live her life according to her own rules. It was very good.

I'm still working on it but I've been reading Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters for This. It's been an interesting book. I definitely recommend it, especially for the month of June as it does explore bisexual/lesbian relationships.

I chose That for this month and read
The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. Normally, she is a favourite of mine, but it was hard to get into this book. Eventually I did and it was okay, just very meh. I don't even think I'm compelled to read the rest of the series.
My partner sure laughed when he asked me what I was reading, and I said, "it's a book about faeries. In fact, I'm reading two books involving fae and neither are smut."

I chose This: The Haunting of Sunshine House by Dominika Best was okay. A little slow in some parts. I enjoy a good paranormal novel, though, so three stars.

I chose That and read
Untouchable by Talia Hibbert which was a quick, easy to read romance novel written by BIPOC author. Perfect palette cleanser for me.

I chose This: My boyfriend is Swedish so he 100% inspired this and in all honesty, we do not read enough books from Europe and we should. Lots of excellent writers outside of North America.
I read The Ice Princess by Camilla Läckberg which is a psychological thriller set in a municipality in Sweden, super, super north of where he lives. I very much enjoyed it, even though I kind of had the mystery figured out pretty early on.

I tried reading that book years ago and I just couldn't get into it :(

Here Mandy, for the Scandinavian portion, try this
Best Scandinavian and Nordic Literature

That: Chose a book from my besties shelf and read
Circe by Madeline Miller.
I knew very little about Circe but now I'll do my own research to better understand her position in mythology.

That
Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas.
This was okay. I wouldn't really consider it a thriller or a horror. Gothic vibes, yeah but, very meh.

That:
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
As a gamer, this was awesome.
As a person, holy crap would that life ever be scary.

This: A funny and/or inspiration memoir.
That: A book with a green cover or red cover.

This: A book from a friend's bookshelf.
That: A book from your own TBR.
