Sorry you’re on nursemaid/helper duty, that can get old fast. I’ve been swept up by different hobbies etc. I got it in my head to participate in a guild showing this month. I was way too excited and it wasn’t until my work was put up next to everyone else’s that I remembered I’m weird and myopic. Everything else was light and themed for Christmas, Halloween, family, or nature. My work was dark and called Deep Space Flowers. Lol, you could say I missed my audience. But I liked it.
Trinity River’s Blues by Chesya Burke ★★★★☆ That was the best black southern gothic I have ever read. I didn’t understand the ending but it was visually stunning.
That devil, that power, was written in a tempting way. Though I didn’t understand what more she was getting, just how much she enjoyed having it.
The Familiar’s Assistant by Alma Katsu ★★★★☆
Well, that was a new take on vampirism. Not often I say that. This was an addicts’ vampire, this was the monster craved by only the most devastated humans. People so broken they hunt for painful thrilling death. It was uncomfortable read.
Run and buy your tickets now because the Abyss is returning for one night only! https://youtu.be/7cCVYAcIIAo?si=z8LFF...
All the Things He Called Memories by Stephen Graham Jones ★★★☆☆ This was a claustrophobic lockdown story where a clinical psychologist decides to experiment on her husband. I found it deeply unpleasant.
Papa Eye by Priya Sharma ★★★½☆ This did take its time, so much time that when I was finally interested I needed to go back to the beginning. Or I will, later.
Volcano by Livia Llewellyn ★★★★☆
No writes like Livia. She makes depression goth-dark instead of sad and lonely. She creates friends for your darkness.
Fiona, I finally watched Exandria Unlimited: Calamity. That last episode was six hours long - I cried and cried. It was worth the pain but damn.
Thank goodness they are getting better. Near a fifth of the way in and I didn’t like anything, it was troubling.
It was overwhelming but she had a good time and enjoyed all the pets and treats. I wish I could have gotten a video of her noticing the jaguar walking a foot away from her. Not quite spooked, but a little shocked, at realizing that wasn’t a dog.
Today was my local zoo’s inaugural Dog Day! I got this amazing photo of my dog, in a Wonder Woman costume, and a lioness: https://www.goodreads.com/photo/user/...
A Life in Nightmares by Ramsey Campbell ★★☆☆☆ Whatever happened to the baby was scary/sad and the rest was boring with ending that came out of nowhere.

The winter solstice is celebrated as a time of joy around the world—yet the long nights also conjure a darker tradition of ghouls, hauntings, and visitations. This anthology of all-new stories invites you to huddle around the fire and revel in the unholy, the dangerous, the horrific aspects of a time when families and friends come together—for better and for worse.
