1166052 Morning all. Played a bit more Destroy All Humans but I also played the COD Vanguard beta over the weekend. COD is COD multiplayer wise it's pretty much the same every year except with different maps, a different cosmetic theme and some weapons that we're all familiar with (from previous WW2 games). I honestly think it won't go down well this year with the WW2 theme (WW2 seems to be unpopular with gamers at the mo) but got to say I wasn't of fan of the beta. The maps in the beta are tiny and I've never been shot in the back as much - it looks like the spawns are broke and that it's much easier to get behind and flank people mainly due to map design and probably the spawns. And the Blitz mode is awful - at least for me - it's like spawn-die-spawn every ten seconds. So I switched that off in the matchmaking which is at least is an option. Could be the year Battlefield - if it's good - might become the top (as in most popular) FPS game.

120fps games feel very silky smooth and slick. You do notice a difference compared to 60fps. And then when you go back to 60fps from 120fps you feel the stutter that you probably didn’t notice before. 60fps then almost starts to feel like the difference between going from 60fps to 30fps. Hope that made sense 😀. If you don’t play 120fps for a while 60fps feels slick again. One of those things you notice when you use the better option. Only drawback is that games tend to downscale the resolution in 120fps. Most games downscale to 1080p which for me is too much so I tend to stick to 60fps. Some games only downscale to 1440p which is acceptable as the sharpness is still there somewhat.

120fps has spoilt me as I’ve switched my phone and tablet to 120fps devices as the difference is so much nicer.
1166052 Yea 60fps all the way. So difficult to go back to 30fps when most games are default 60fps on next gen. 120fps is more of a decision as for me sometimes the resolution takes a big hit depending on the game.
1166052 I started Destroy All Humans last night. The 2020 remake. It's actually OK and fun. Great to play as a bad alien and wreak havoc on the idiot humans. Great B type game like ManEater (entitely different games) but the same kind of B movie fun vibe - ManEater is the better game however. Some semi-annoying insta-death stuff but nothing that bad. Good variety of game play with stealth disguising yourself as a human (annoying insta-fail in some missions), popping brains out of heads, abductions and flying saucer wreaking havoc. A solid 7/10 so far.
1166052 Yea it's been delayed to Nov 19th which is OK - prefer it to be mostly working than not. Every battlefield launch since I've known has never gone that smoothly. At least it allows me to play Back4Blood when it comes out - as they previously released three days apart. Although COD and BF are now releasing closer together. And I tend to play them both at launch.
1166052 Well I tried the Medium and gave it 15 minutes and hated it. I know that’s not very long but the near static nature of it, with it being fixed camera angle from room to room, and the poor world interaction, that was enough for me. Not my bag at all so wasn’t going to prolong it. No idea what to play now. I am considering a replay of Titanfall 2 or perhaps try Destroy all Humans as it’s another mindless low commitment short game. Thing is I was looking forward to Battlefield 2042 early next month so wasn’t going to play anything too lengthy but from internet rumours Battlefield is to be delayed by several weeks, and some rumours say next year.

I played Mafia 2 and 3. Really good games. I preferred 2 but 3 is good. I have wondered whether to play the Mafia 1 remake.
1166052 Metro Exodus is a cracking game - and a bargain at that price.
1166052 Looks good to me. Always like Arkane games albeit Prey was a slightly mixed bag. Although IGN gave it a 10 and ACG a Wait-for-sale. So a bit polorizing.

I've just checked out some other reviews and many others with full marks too. Perhaps it's just ACG. I usually think he's pretty spot-on but it certainly looks like he's very much in the minority here.
1166052 Glad you enjoyed it Glass. It is a good game. I’ve not tried New Dawn as it’s the same world I believe with what looks like a pretty mild post apocalyptic skin and a weapon levelling system that looks a bit annoying to me. I’ll be interested in your thoughts though. New Dawn is the only far cry game I haven’t played so far. Got to say the ending of FC5 I hated - the final game play in that final mission was terrible. It was like totally left field and a daft game play ending. Story wise I was ok with it but that final mission- awful. Loved it before that mission.
1166052 It's fine Glass honest :-).

Hi all. Completed Psychonauts 2 over the weekend. In the end really enjoyed this game a lot. Before I played it I was expecting some AA short game but actually it's a quite a long (15-17 hours ish) AAA game and really highly polished. You can see a lot of care and love has gone into the game. Truly excellent artwork, and graphics. Bat sheet crazy story and characters. Very varied game play with varied platforming in varied environments using lots of abilities. Combat is fun enough - probably its weakest element but still not bad and probably only 1/3rd of the game play. If you get the chance to play it I recommend it highly - you do need to get through the first 3-4 hours to get to the more open areas - it is a linear game which has open areas that add a bit of exploration and variety. For me 8.5/10 on the R-score-o-meter.

Next I wasn't going to play anything until Battlefield 2042 but I downloaded The Medium. Second time I've downloaded it having dismissed it without trying and it's only a shortish game I believe.
1166052 Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the final campaign mission. :-)

1166052 I watched it. For me there wasn't a lot. Although God of War looks excellent as you would expect so that has me excited. Otherwise - yea not too fussed about an Uncharted remastered collection (just read this is actually only U4 and Legacy so too recent for another purchase) - I feel they are so recent, and still look good that I don't feel the need to replay them anytime soon. The Old Republic I never played it the first time so have no hype for it - but I will keep an eye out for whether it appeals as more is revealed. The Tiny Tina game looked interesting but I expect that will come to Xbox too - and I started to lose interest in Borderlands games after 2. I'm not into comic book games and wasn't that impressed by the first spiderman (it was good but nothing amazing especially campaign wise) and so Spiderman 2 has no appeal and Wolvervine I'll wait to see more (but again comic book stuff generally doesn't float my boat except for maybe Batman). And GT7 - never liked a GT game so don't expect that will change. So all in all not a great showcase for my taste in gaming. I am excited for the Cat game lol - that looks great. So far only the cat game and Ragnarok are games I want to play. I'll wait for the P5 Slim too most likely.

Alan Wake however I will get but on Xbox. It doesn't look graphically that much improved but I enjoyed it so much when I played it 10 years ago that I'll defo play it again and for £25 very reasonable. Plus it includes the DLC and I remember that being very good too.
1166052 Hi all. Still playing Psychonauts 2. Getting close to the end now. It has been an excellent game though. Some of the levels have been really fun, sometimes frustrating, but very very varied - each level feels unique especially in the artwork which is sublime. Story and especially characters are bat shit crazy. Glad I gave the game a chance as it really opens up after the first few hours - some good open maps to explore and great campaign. And I think once I'm done with it that's me done with any new games until BF2042 and Back4Blood and the big autumn/winter release frenzy. I might go back to Quake to fill the time and possibly at a stetch Assassin's Creed Valhalla (albeit at this point the game is all but binned off).

Great to hear there is an Alan Wake remaster coming out soon (rumoured October), and is cross-platform. That is a must buy for me - even though I own the 360 original. One of my favourite games of all time. I might wait for a price drop but deffo getting it at some point.
1166052 There have been lots of Far Cry 6 game play vids on you tube recently so I've been watching them. It looks like they've ramped up the 'daftness' somewhat - not in a bad way. What with a rocket back-pack to burn enemy that surround you and a raving mad cockerel side-kick. And the weapons look a lot more varied - weapons seem very customisable to the point they're a bit crazy looking too. Otherwise it looks like more Far Cry. The only thing I didn't like the look of is that enemy have health bars and I noticed one or two 'standard' looking enemy took more than a clip to kill which to me is f'ing annoying and unrealistic. And weapon choice seems very important - choosing the right bullet type for the job kind-a-thing. I'll defo play it - it looks fun but I truly hope enemies are not bullet sponges. Enemy don't appear to have levels.
1166052 Progressed some more on Psychonauts 2. Finally got through the ‘cookoff missions’ and then the ‘cookoff’ boss fight which was just as frustrating. The game doesn’t explain things very well at times which sometimes makes it frustrating - no more so than the cookoff mission. Then the following two missions are superb - completely different and fun. I’m over half way through so hopefully I’ll complete this game now.
1166052 Welcome back Glass. Hope you had a good vacation. I’ve just had a month off myself - a sabbatical which I get every four years. Managed to keep myself busy most of the time. Back to work on Wednesday - which will be a shock after a month off. Didn’t go anywhere but enjoyed the break from work. I’ve been playing Psychonauts 2 which is very good. The artwork is amazing and the platforming is good albeit sometimes challenging. Just got to a part where I have to prepare some food dishes which is out staying its welcome a tad. Good game however but has one or two annoyances - this mission I’m doing and the combat could be better. And the world has just expanded so there is quite a bit of exploration even though the campaign is linear. A really good game though - which matches up with 8/10 reviews it’s getting,
1166052 Yea me neither but for free on game pass I'll try it. ACG raves about it and from what I've seen it looks graphically amazing artwork wise. And apparently the platforming is good. Looks bat shit crazy too which I like the look of.
1166052 Finished the remastered Quake - the original campaign. Really good and enjoyable. I’ve only got the expansions to do. Think I’ll give Psychonauts 2 a go first.
1166052 I was put off 12 Minutes by the Eurogamer review. Made it seem like a game with good voice acting and story but very very frustrating and the reward of progressing the story is very slow. I probably won’t play it.
1166052 I didn’t rate it to be honest but perhaps it’s not for me rather than it being a bad game.
