He was one of my father's favourite; still I can't see the poetry in him! And I also had to study him for my University exam of Anglo American Literature!
My husband says that A Farewell to Arms is much better than The Sun Also Rises; I'll read it sooner or later...
110440 FInished a couple of really beautiful books.
One is Italian, L'Agnese va a morire - on the Resistenza to the Fascist regime and Nazi occupation in WWII - that it seems has not been translated into English; pity.

The second is The Gunners; really interesting view of how children ca grow up as friends, not undestarding the inner feelings of each other. Still, if they're really friends, sooner or later, they...catch up.

110440 I'm reading an Italian novel, La città dei vivi, on a terrible and tragic true story happened in Rome in 2016.
One of the culprit was the son of a collegue of mine - not really a collegue, a consulent of the Foundation I worked in in 2014.
I find the story terrible, and after time has passed, I still can't understand how this man - the father I mean, the one I worked with - can cope with his life.
I do understand that the guillt of the fathers ahs not to be passed onto the sons - and also the other way rounf.
Still, I sincerelly don't know how I could go on living and working after something like that

That's the reason why, when recomending books to friends - thing that I confess I do often, I always add "in my humble opinion". WHat I like is not always what other people appreciate. I don't say that this is an ugly book; simply it has not gained my attention. It has not talked to me as it has to others...

110440 We've all followed your election close Leslie: even if from another continent, we do realise that so much depended on it!
In my modest opinion things now are going to be better, at least more calm and "people friendly"
I feel for you all

Lol Steve: see what I've written in my review: " As usual not my piece fo cake. I know he was a really good writer; still I can't see the famous 7/8 underneath!!!!"

110440 I've started yesterday Falling - and I really like tha way this writer writes!!!
At the same time I'm listening to The Neverending Story and reading L'Agnese va a morire, an Italian book on the "resistenza", the movement that, especially in northen Italy but not only, opposed to the Nazi occupation of our country, as well as against the fascist government of Salò Repubblic.
We have several novels on this topic; this is one of the dearest to me; read only once when at school, it's hight time I read it again - also considering that my grandfather was a partisan
