110440 I think you're totally right: and if you don't learn to forgive yourself, all is, almost, lost!
110440 Finished.
I see what you mean being disapponted in the final chapter, but I have to admit I was sort of expecting it. Nothing could go well, given the assumptions.
Remember they all did wrong to one-unother, and they have to "pay" in a way. Remember Gaskell was very religious, and she sort of believd in retribution for actions done in your life
110440 I think that this is the book that I've re-reade more times: the first classic I've read when 12, studied in University, loved always. One of the best book ever written, not only by a woman.
I know it by hear: I have no time now for a re-read, but I'll be watching you close to see what you think!

Tot pag 725
110440 Interesting thoughts. I'm not at the last chapter, but hope to get there by tomorrow. All else I do agree. This book, as often with her, is on inner feelings and attitudes, more than on events. Life is where things happen, it's up to you how you respond to them!
110440 I'll be reading it!!!
110440 Here I am!
110440 Tell me yours in the meantime! I'll be finished with it in a aday or two!

I liked the fact that it was all left open and (view spoiler)

Elizabeth Gaskell can tell a good tale and this is one of them."

I do agree - even if I've not finished it yet. The story here is better than the single characters. As I've already said in the other discussion, I find Sylvia a bit shallow in all her love and greif; Philip too stiff

I'm more than half way through and liking it quite, even if I have to admit that here the caracters are not ass good as in other of her novels (for instance in North and South , or even better in Wives and Daughters), here I'm liking them less.
Sylvia is shallow, in all her grief and love; Philip too stiff...
110440 Reading it now and enjoying it quite. Totally imprabable but funny and with nice characters...let's see how it goes on
