Thanks for a different take on it Cleo - I'm glad at least someone enjoyed it! I still don't think I will spend any money on it as I didn't particularly enjoy the film but if the library ever gets it in I will give it a go ;)

Ok well I finished the first Earthsea book last night and absolutely loved it! Her writing is beautiful, she is a real craftswoman in the respect that no words are wasted and at the same time it's a very lyrical and poetic read - it has the feel of an old ballad or legend.
I loved this, I think the story can work on more than one level depending when in your life you read it/or what you want to get out of it and I can't wait to read the rest of the Earthsea stories.

It's sort of bittersweet isn't it?

You two have been reading too much Agatha Christie - she might have just lain down for a quick kip ;)

Like it. I've enjoyed the poems we've had from Chinese poets in the past and also what I've seen of Japanese Haiku but they are quite different to western poetry. I love how they say much in few words - might have to get an anthology and find out a bit more.

I never started - couldn't get a copy from the library and was waiting for the verdict from you guys before spending my hard-earned cash - so I don't think I'll bother now and will just skip straight to Buddenbrooks which looks better ;)

I love this one - it's a big favourite of my mum's ;)

@ Ellie - I'm just chilling for the moment and then we will be going up to Scotland on Thursday morning and coming back on Monday. Than back to work Wednesday so hopefully I will have recovered by then!
Enjoy Penznace, I've never been but it looks lovely!
@Lee - thanks very much, and I know the other comment was for Angela, but you totally made me crave peanut butter lol!

We miss you too Angela - hope it isn't too mental!

Yay!!!!! I'm on holiday - so happy! Having a few days off then T in the Park festival at the weekend, good times ;)

Well I do love the Harry Potter books but le Guin's writing is soooo much better. I love the way this reads and I already know I'm going to read the rest of the trilogy (probably straight after this one).

Hi Laura, welcome to the group, hope you like it here.

He seems to have lost interest in the war for now.

Scary! But eerily accurate.

How are you anyway? Enjoy your hols? :)

Yeah I thought it was great but it is twisted (that's why I went with bunnies for the next one ha ha!).

Nice isn't it? I'd not heard of this poet before but might have to check out their other stuff

I've got the first three books of Earthsea as well so am going to read at least the first one. It's been on my tbr since forever!
