109785 Any thoughts or comments on this month's book you just have to discuss before the hangout? This is the place for it.

109785 Hey, folks! Just wanted to do a bit of shameless self-promotion and let you all know my spoiler-free review of Little Brother's sequel is up on the blog. If you enjoyed last month's pick, give this a read.

109785 I don't have a problem with that. But, like Donovan said, just please don't be 550 pages of dinoporn.

109785 Thoughts on this month's spooktacular pick? Ideas for our annual Halloween hangout?

This is the place for 'em.

109785 No, but I'm only on chapter four.

109785 Hmm. My copy doesn't have the bookshop dedications. Am I missing anything (besides the obvious bookshop dedications)?

109785 I'm in!

Hope I don't get a book that was used as a murder weapon again.

109785 Whenever I'm back home in Ohio, I always make the short trip to the hippie community of Yellow Springs and visit Dark Star Books. Great little indie shop.

109785 Great website!

One of my favorites is on that list too - The Catcher in the Rye. It's interesting to see that it still gets challenged in this day and age. The reasons for doing so are quite amusing. A little scary, but overall amusing.

109785 I love Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. It's a series of children's books based on folklore that have caused more than a few nightmares over the years.

The illustrations are some of the creepiest things you'll ever see and were replaced by watered down versions in later releases due to paretal complaints.

I gifted an older copy with the original art last year for our All Hallow's Read bookswap. I'll be doing the same this year, unless I get Lara again, in which case she'll be recieving a copy of book two.

109785 I jumped into The Kingkiller Chronicles immediately after finishing A Song of Ice and Fire. It was about halfway through Day Two when I realized I'm starting to OD on epic fantasy. Time for a break.

This time of year, I usually go on a 'horror' reading spree, but that's purely seasonal.

Come November, I should be ready for the next fantasy series which was recommended to me by Ez: Gentleman Bastards.

109785 I'm just stupid.
Non Fiction (5 new)

109785 Longitude is the first ever non fiction book selected for our club. We've been talking about the genre all month over on twitter (@LiterallyGeeky) and would like the input of our goodreads members as well.

Are you a fan of non fiction, or do you prefer the escapism of fiction?

Our Longitude discussion is this coming Monday. Be sure to tune in and let us know your thoughts!

109785 Is it possible to love an author's writing style yet, at the same time, find the stories they tell extremely dull?

I'm currently having this exact feeling toward Patrick Rothfuss and his Kingkiller series. The man has a wonderful way with the written word, but at the same time, he's using his talents to bore me to tears.

I love the realistic (almost scientific) way he describes magic. I enjoy his method of turning music into words so well that the reader can practically bob along to the songs. Yet, despite all this, I find his close attention to the smallest detail is really slowing down the overall story. It's at the point where I'm having to force myself to keep reading, even though I'm curious to find out what happens.

Can any of you relate to this feeling? If so, with which author/series?

109785 Okay, you guys had a lot to say about Ready Player One. A LOT. So much, in fact, that we couldn't keep up with your comments during the hangout!

Therefore, let's continue the discussion here! What did you think about this month's selection?
Jul 28, 2014 01:19PM

109785 Understandable. For that you'd need speed-reading powers that rivaled Ez's.

You can still tune in, or check back tomorrow to see what next month's book will be!

109785 You picked a good time to join! Unless you haven't read the book yet...but still, welcome!

109785 Hey, folks! This is just a heads up for those who aren't on twitter that our Ready Player One discussion is happening live in one hour over on the geekocracy YouTube channel. Be sure to tune in and let us know what you thought of this month's book.

109785 We're glad you found us, Sarah!

Looking forward to the hangout this coming Monday. I think it may be the best one yet.
