109785 Inigo Montoya is my favorite from the film. Curious to see if that changes with the book.

109785 What's that? You want a thread for discussing this book before the hangout?

As you wish...

109785 Hey, everyone. We've had to move tonight's scheduled hangout back a day to the 26th.

Blame aliens.

109785 Something to say about this month's book that can't wait till the hangout? This is the place for it!

I'm excited to start this one. We have a pretty good track record when it comes to sci-fi. There was that one book who dare not be named, but, other than that - so far so good!

I'm happy we're giving Terry Pratchett another go. And I'm excited to finally explore Discworld a little.

I'm a little nervous about this one. Religon is a touchy subject for lots of people - especially when it comes to criticism and satire. But here's hoping we get a good discussion out of it.

109785 Hey, everyone. In case you missed the announcement on Twitter, this month's hangout has been moved to Thursday the 29th. Same time. Same YouTube channel.

Hope you can make it!

109785 The subject line says it all.

It's a popular choice, but I have to go with The Shining. The sense of dread King builds up as the story progresses is nerve-wrecking and the delivery doesn't disappoint.

Both the lady in the tub and the playground tunnel moments were enough to make me put the book down and search for some lighter entertainment.

How about you?

109785 Hey, everyone! Just a quick heads up: tomorrow's planned hangout has been rescheduled for Tuesday the 29th. Hope you all can still make it!

I think Northern Lights will make for a good discussion. The story itself sounds interesting and exciting and the anti-religous controversy surrounding it all is appropriate for Banned Books Week.

Also, polar bears. In armor.

109785 I know this genre is Hollywood's current favorite spot to search for the next big box office hit, but in all honesty, I've never bought into the whole Hunger Games/Maze Runner/Divergent/etc craze.

Granted, I'm no longer in the key demographic (by about 20 years *sniffles*) but from what I've seen and/or heard, the genre is full of stereotypical tropes.

What's your experience level with dystopian YA fiction? Which stories stand out the most?

109785 It's a rare occasion when Hollywood manages to outdo the source material, be we all agreed it happened with Jurassic Park. Words on a page just couldn't compete with seeing those dinosaurs on the big screen.

Can you think of any other examples where this happened?

109785 The dice have spoken and they have selected Maplecroft as our two year anniversary book!

Got something to say about it that just can't wait until the hangout? You've come to the right thread.

This was definitely one of the more eye-catching titles in the suggestion box for me personally. Looking forward to reading it!

109785 I've been thinking a lot about which book I want to suggest and have decided on an author I believe deserving of a second shot:

Old Man's War by John Scalzi.

109785 If you're going to suggest a sequel to a dinosaur-themed book we've previously read, then I'd prefer that one.

109785 YOLO!

I'm so sorry...

109785 I dunno. Sounds dangerous.

That looks interesting...

109785 I've actually read a wrestling autobiography before - Jesse Ventura's "I Ain't Got Time to Bleed"

It was good.

109785 As mentioned during the last hangout, we're once again handing over the reigns this July and letting you pick the book for our two year birthday bash!

But rather than using a poll like last year, we're going with a different method this time around - a suggestion box!

Simply use this thread to add the book(s) of your choice to the list. We'll assign each one a number and, based on the amount of suggestions, roll the appropriate die at the end of our Jurassic Park hangout to determine the winner!

There are absolutely no restrictions to the kind of book(s) you can suggest. A personal favorite, perhaps? How about a classic we've yet to cover? Another paranormal romance? It's all fair game this July.

Let's hear those suggestions!

Good luck!
