The World

[close] This group is based on book selections discussed in the podcast "Around the World in 6 Books" (available in Spotify; Episode summaries are available at https://sixbookspodcastxyz.wordpress.com). The project is aimed at learning about the cultures, history, and conflicts of other countries. To get to learn about that a little reading [more than one book], that does not feel like homework [thus the limit on six books], is necessary. And why learn about this stuff? Because is fun... to some of us. So, if you are like me, and you like these topics and would like to travel around the world (on a book budget), then you may enjoy the books listed here. [close] This is a group created to get through all those old books that haven't been conquered yet, or deserve to be reread, as well as throwing in some new releases now and then as well! This is a fun, casual reading group where there is no pressure to join in but the more people that do the merrier!!

However, books can take you to places where you have bever been or somewhere you want to go back. If you love world literature, translated works, travel writing, or exploring the world through books, you have come to the right place! ATW80 began in 2009 as a challenge on TNBBC. The separate group was established in 2011. Anyone can join and participate in the challenges or readings at any time. Challenge participation is not a requirement of joining. Anyone who loves reading books from around the world is welcome here. The main purpose of this group is to travel the world through books, experiencing new authors and cultures along the way. This venture has introduced me to far off lands, fresh viewpoints, and many new authors I might not have discovered otherwise.
