Queer Theory

[close] Haaaaay Everyone! So, I'm starving for the company of other queers. I want to read books, and discuss them, and talk about queer theory and social constructs and oppression and ways to dismantle the system. The books will most likely be really critical of marriage, military, and the PIC, and a catalyst for continually checking my/our privilege, etc. If you're also into this, please join!

[close] A group celebrating and sharing LGBTQIA+ or otherwise Queer books, literature, and the occasional film. We hope to spread understanding, tolerance and acceptance - as well as good books, of course. I hope that this serves as something I didn't have when I needed it: a forum where people can find resources and people that will show them they are not alone and that they are worthy of love and respect. The YouTube channel can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu3Lx50F7doWpLbtiwszIzQ The name "Letterbomb" is not indicative of a desire for violence or arson, but of the complex explosion of ideas and identities under the label of LGBTQIA+, and how the deeper you go, the more there are. The basic idea is that, either weekly or fortnightly, each member makes a YouTube video or blog post on a specific, predetermined theme. For example, week one might be Lesbian Coming Out Novels, so everyone would produce content about their favourite lesbian Coming Out novels. Not everyone will be able to do every week, but the idea is to share as many resources as possible so that they can be found.

[close] It comes as no surprise that being LGBT or becoming involved in any sexually alternative lifestyles, promotes all sort of intolerance. We want to learn about the sources and bases of this phenomenon that permeates the lives of all of us. We want to learn about the historical and anthropolical foundations of innate sexual orientations, choices about how we live our sex lives, and how humanity has developed toward the place where "we" now find ourselves in the world. We even want to figure out ways to promote tolerance if we can. So our thought is that if we introduce ourselves to one another (to the extent we choose -- reticence concerning full self-descriptions most often stems from fear of intolerance) read, learn and discuss issues related to the many forms of intolerance, we might accomplish something positive.
