We, at the Book Club, IIT Kanpur, have just brought down that paradise loaded with a diverse collection of books and not to mention, comfy bean-bags for the feel of it. Whether you are new to the world of books or a dedicated bookworm, we got your back covered. Our collections include Fiction, Non-Fiction, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Classics, Poetry, Drama, Collections, Comics, Popular Science, Self Help, Romance, Biographies, Autobiographies, Bengali and Hindi. The SAC Book Club comes under the Cultural Council of the Students’ Gymkhana. It is maintained and operated by a team of 3 coordinators and 14 secretaries who work on a completely voluntary basis. During the semester, the club opens 7 days a week, for 1 hour on weekdays (9-10 pm) and 2 hours on the weekends (8-10 pm). We also conduct events, ranging from bookish-themed competitions and fun get-togethers to our flagship event, The Halloween Party! Do drop by and see us sometime. We can have our little, adventurous trips to new worlds!

Your entries are invited for the magazine. मेराकी ग्रीक भाषा का एक शब्द है,एक विशेषण जिसका अर्थ है रचनात्मकता से किया गया कोई भी कार्य। कोई भी कार्य जिसे हम अपनी आत्मा से करें, पूर्ण समर्पण और प्रेम के साथ करें। यह वेबसाइट “मेराकी” एक अंकिचन प्रयास है ऐसे युवाओं को एक प्लेटफॉर्म देने का जहां उन्हे बेहतर साहित्य पढ़ने को मिले जो उनके विचारों को आकार देने में सहायक सिद्ध हो सके। साहित्य, कला जैसे तत्व जो उनके जीवन से विलुप्त होते चले गए हैं, वह उनसे फिर जुड़ पाएँ और एक बेहतर समाज के निर्माण में अपना सक्रिय योगदान दे सके क्योंकि जीवन बस एक अच्छा करियर बना लेने और पाँच अंको की सैलरी पा लेने में ही नहीं सिमट जाता। जीवन के मायने इससे कहीं बढ़कर हैं, जीवन इससे कहीं आगे जाता है .... कहाँ तक और उसका लक्ष्य क्या है बस इस खोज की ललक भर पैदा हो जाए तो मैं समझूंगी कि मेरा उद्देश्य सफल हुआ, “मेराकी” का उद्देश्य सफल हुआ....

[close] I started this group on idea that I had as a reader. I was constantly finding books in foreign languages that I am/was unable to read. I thought wouldn't it be great if I could ban together translators, authors and publishers together to possibly make English versions available to non-multilingual people? and also, books from other countries like the UK and Australia not available to those in the USA? I'm looking for translators who are dual-lingual, in their native tongue and in English. French, Italian, German, Dutch, Spanish, all apply here. My idea is to take the original book, translate it, publish it to Smashwords or somewhere similar, see how it gains an audience to an American publisher may pick it up and publish it, possibly give it a better translation. I'm not sure how all this work, legally, but it's worth taking a shot at! If this takes off, I'd like to start a website, to collaborate with reviewers, other bloggers, authors, publishers and freelance translators. We would work on translations, take requests, communicate with authors and publishers and review said books. if we cannot translate, I'd like to at least spread the knowledge of the books in hopes that they'd picked up by a USA publisher.
