[close] A group to discuss holding online book discussions about Democracy and Education by John Dewey on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.

[close] The dictionary defines civil liberties as liberties guaranteed to all individuals by law, custom, judicial interpretation, etc.; rights, as of speaking or acting as one likes, without governmental interference or restraint except as determined necessary for the public welfare (Webster's New World). The group seeks a civil, non-political approach to studying and defending civil liberties.

[close] This reading series will commence with Gangs of America: The Rise of Corporate Power and the Disabling of Democracy, followed by The Corporate Reconstruction of American Capitalism, 1890-1916: The Market, the Law, and Politics by Martin J. Sklar, followed by Lobbying America: The Politics of Business from Nixon to NAFTA (Politics and Society in Twentieth Century America) Benjamin C. Waterhouse and finishing with Corporate Warriors: The Rise of the Privatized Military Industry, Updated Edition (Cornell Studies in … by P.W. Singer. These are books that I am reading for my own research. Any one who is also interested in or already reading these books is welcome so that we can discuss, in depth the subject matter brought forth.
