This is a group to track progress of this particular reading challenge for 2018. The challenge consists of 20 books (no doubling up on categories!) and shouldn't be too hard as the categories are pretty broad. We won't be mad at you if you don't finish either. This is just for fun!
The challenge is as follows... Read:
a book released in 2018
a non-fiction book
a kids book
a YA novel
an LGBTQIA+ book
a biography/autobiography/memoir
a book set in the future
a book set (or about a time) before 1940
a how-to book
a graphic novel
a book with mythological creatures
a book featuring an important character with a disability
a book set on or by the sea
a book about a death
a retelling of a *classic
a book with a predominantly yellow cover
a book written by more than one author
a book written by a person of colour
the first book in an existing series (of at least two released books)
a book you’ve meant to read for more than year
Very few of the categories have to be fiction, or non-fiction. If you much prefer one to the other you should be able to stick to that for most of them. A YA novel is fictional, and obviously “a non-fiction book” is non-fiction. For most of the rest you can choose what you want for. Set in the future (as well as first in the series) is easiest for fiction of course, but doesn’t have to be. And going back to YA, if that is your preferred fiction umbrella genre, by all means keep reading that for other categories! And while graphic novel is a specific category again this year, you can read graphic novels that fit into other categories as well (yes, even non-fiction).

I have a feeling that this group will benefit those of us who tend to buy MORE books than we read (aka Tsundoku!)
I thought I should set up this group as a way of keeping our book buying habits in check... And more importantly, tend to the poor, left out books that are collecting dust on our shelves! We should give our shelves more love by not only rereading our favourite books, but also getting to the books we have still yet to read! You can choose to go on a full book NO BUY throughout the year, OR stick to a set number of books you are hoping to only purchase throughout the year. It's your call!
Now... LET'S GET READING!!!
