Anthologies

[close] We read literary fiction from 2000 to present, with the intent of finding those literary gems of timeless and enduring quality. We're less focused on the latest bestsellers, or discussing books already well-represented in other groups. Our passion is to explore works, from around the world, which stand a chance of being remembered fifty years from now. In addition to seeking out books with literary merit, we also encourage lively and thought-provoking discussions. All are welcome to join 21CL, whether you're already a fan of literary fiction, or just starting to explore.

[close] This group is dedicated to the annual poetry anthology The Best American Poetry [insert year here]. A discussion group will be created for each year's anthology with a thread for each poem so that people can comment on each poem as they read it. The idea is to slow down and savor what we like or don't like about each poem and any other reactions we may have, whether technical or personal, to the individual poems. We will also look at each anthology as a whole, it's strengths and flaws. The Best American Poetry collections that come out each year are a snapshot of the poetry published over the previous 12 months as taken by the editor of that collection, which changes every year. Because the guest editor changes every year, the tone of the anthology can change considerably from year to year, which is a testament to the variety and vitality of American poetry. I hope you will join me in taking a close look at this annual survey of poetry that happens every year.

[close] The Yeartide Anthology is a free poetry competition with a difference. Proceeds going towards helping people with learning disabilities. Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter, each season Yeartide Anthology will be running a free poetry competition, the winner of which will receive the prize of a short story written and illustrated in the fantasy genre by R. Newport or a guest author and illustrator. The winner will be asked to suggest three influences they would like the author to structure a story around; they can be places, animals mythical or real, objects or ideas. At the end of each year an anthology will be published containing the four winning poems, as well as the short stories and illustrations; the proceeds of which will go towards helping people with learning disabilities. The dates for submission of each seasonal poem competition throughout 2015 are as follows: SPRING March 1st – April 30th, winner announced in May SUMMER June 1st – July 31st, winner announced in August AUTUMN September 1st – October 31st, winner announced in November WINTER December 1st – January 31st, winner announced in February
