I used to have a really long biography, then it stopped making sense. Bios are about the past and writing is a present thing.

Want to know me? Read my books and translations.

Want to reach out? Send a message here or use the contact form on my website. Twitter works best.

Want to be my agent? Dinner is on me!

That's it. Enjoy and, if you read my books, please rate and review. I reply to the ones (good or bad) that resonate with me.

If you insist on a traditional bio. Here it is:

Fábio M. Barreto was born in São Paulo, Brazil. After a prolific career as entertainment reporter and editor, he moved to Los Angeles as a correspondent, working for major Brazilian outlets.

After attending film school in 2011, he switched his focus to narrative storytel

So, when I hit the block, I either drop the scene or come back a few pages to see if I really need, or if I can do without, that content.

When I get stuck, it tends to happen because I'm not sure about the idea (this happens a lot before I actually start writing) or I'm still missing a key piece of the narrative. I like going in with the opening and closing scenes, it defines my boundaries. It helps. But, as previous experiences had clearly showed, it can be proven difficult and time consuming even before the first word is down. However, that's not writer's block for me... it's careful development, since it's what I've always done with my feature screenplays. Not overthinking, just finding the key pieces, or beats, before you nose dive into the story. :D(less)

About Ballads and Friends

This is my first post here, and I'll do it in English, just to stretch my fingers and, who knows, maybe find some new readers around the world. Not that the Brazilians aren't enough, far from that, but the more, the merrier! :D

Here it goes:

The thrill of a new release is not easily translatable into words. Strange as it may seem, coming from a writer, it has merit and gives one pause to wonder. Read more of this blog post »
