I don't know the answer, but I don't think it can be The Sopranos. The Sopranos was filmed in New Jersey, and Gottlieb's practice is in Los Angeles.
i don't think it's the sopranos either bc when she talks about how the main character starts seeing a therapist, she also mentions other shows that have therapist characters and she lists the sopranos as one of them.
Agree, it can't be Sopranos because Dr. Melfi is mentioned by name. I thought maybe Breaking Bad, but most of the "clues" don't really point that way.
It IS The Sopranos. In an interview with Rolling Stones "John" said this:

I guess Lorraine Kaufmann --> Lori Gottlieb???
Sopranos was filmed on the east coast in the early 2000s. Gottlieb didn’t start practicing until 2011.
