Kahri - you don't necessarily HAVE to read it since it's a new part of the series, but you will definitely understand it better if you have read The Twelve Kingdoms first
Thanks Victoria, there’s definitely some things as I’m reading that only semi-make sense and I wonder if perhaps I’m ruining the Twelve Kingdoms books by reading this one first. Maybe I’ll switch and read them now instead and get back to this one after!
Just an update on this - in case anyone else stumbles upon this with the same question. I ended up reading The Pages of the Mind first and I absolutely loved it :D
