Yes you must start at the beginning! I just discovered this series two months ago, and have already listened to all on Audible! It’s cost me a pretty penny, but once you start, you can’t stop! I love this series!
In the good-ole' times before e-readers, the question of whether having to read a series from the beginning or to enter it right where you could get the current installment held more of importance, didn't it? Could you still get hold of the first in the series, was it discontinued, did you have to hunt it down second hand to get the complete picture? It's all easier now - that's one of the great feats of digital reading. No 13th imprint needed, just a digital version. And you can ask for it.
Therefore these days I say: Yes, go for the full experience, start at the beginning!
