I'm having a hard time thinking through the path that Nina took from tamped-down, put-in-her-place, post-rescue to someone who would again take risks and engage in a torrid affair. As for Ilona, I too, see her as isolated. But she's such a fighter. I'd like to imagine her as being able to open up, but I'm not sure she would have been capable. Your characters are wonderfully complex; i love that you have drawn them without judgment, and with lives that can persist beyond the page. Thanks for answering!
