Jean Sasson I lived in Saudi Arabia for 12 years. I traveled to every Middle Eastern country. I have friends in Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and other great nations in the area. No, I do not speak Arabic. There are valid reasons why I do not, but all of my Arab friends speak fluent English, which does help a lot!

Halla Usama Strange.! I lived among the Arabs for a long time and gained friends. And did not think to learn our language?

Jean Sasson Halla, of course I did. I happened to have worked for the Saudi head of the royal hospital and when I signed up for Arabic lessons through the hospital and Dr. Feteih found out I was taking the lessons, he came in and told me "You can't work for me and know Arabic." This was because he often received calls from King Khalid and Crown Prince Fah'd at the time and they carried on conversations in Arabia and thus Dr. Feteih would not allow anyone working in close proximity with him to understand Arabic. Sometimes there are surprising answers to questions. Therefore, I had to drop the Arabic lessons.

Jean Sasson And, I have numerous Arab friends, I have very happy to report and none hold it against me that I do not speak Arabia.
