Gothwin Thanks. I think sci fi has come on a long way in recent years. That said I do like sci fi with interesting ideas and dry characters at times :)

Mark Lawrence Foundation would be a case in point for me. Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke etc - I read them and enjoyed them but they never evoked the passion and excitement that the fantasy I read did.

Gothwin Interesting. Re-read Foundation recently and it did bore me a bit. Still love ACC. One example of a book I liked with dry characters was Permutation City by Greg Egan. Lots of cool ideas about consciousness and artificial life that made me want to learn more about the science. Also Children of Time by Adrian T. Cool speculations about life and evolution.

Mark Lawrence Well, my Impossible Times trilogy are sci-fi (without spaceships or ray guns) so maybe given them a shot. They have ideas and characters - hopefully good ones :)
