Krista Vaillancourt It was written before the internet. You are the younger, slicker, cyber savvy in-group and the book is reaching to appeal to you, hoping to still be relevant. Don't let it defeat you.

Thomas Pugh Thanks for your encouragement. I'll borrow it again from the Library. I was pushing through but "Utopia Avenue" became available. I really like David Mitchell's writing, but I'll Gibson's book another effort.

Steven Mastroyin It's not for everyone but not every author is. That said, if your frustration is entirely with vocabulary and understanding every crumb of the setting, then I would encourage you to keep reading. Focus on what the characters do and say and worry less about their complicated backstories. Those inform the story but aren't necessary to understand the plot.

If you find you aren't enjoying anything about it, like some, then stop. There's too much to read in the world to get hung up on trying to force your way through something you don't enjoy.
