I’ve been mostly a quiet reader here, but I really enjoy this group.I’m especially drawn to psychological and atmospheric thrillers —
stories that focus more on inner tension and moral ambiguity
than on fast action.
Always happy to discover new recommendations.

Happy New Year, good to hear your voice.
Welcome Ada to our group. Hope you find some book suggestions here. Do you speak Spanish since you now live in Barcelona. Just wondering because I’m fluent in Spanish which is my first language. Carmen 😊
I'm Dave from Northeast PA.I read mostly mysteries with a few thrillers thrown in and the occasional romance.
I just signed a contract for my third book, The Spare Corpse, my second book (after Illegal Maneuvers) featuring high end car restorer Dan Gallagher.
My other book, Payback, is a suspense/thriller about the hunt for a dirty cop who gunned down a female detective.
Hello everyone! I am also very new here. I started actively using Goodreads yesterday even though I have been having this account since 2018.
I am Mimi, 30 years old and coming from continental Europe. I mostly read in Italian, German or English. My favourite genres are Mystery, Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but I also enjoy reading Classics. My goal in 2026 is to read more Classics, right now I am reading Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie, after this I will read the Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde.
I am looking forward meeting likeminded people I can share book recs and suggestions with!
Feel free to add me as a friend!

Hi Everyone, I'm new in Goodreads. UK citizen, but I live in Spain and enjoy crime thriller mysteries. I look forward to finding new books of this genre to read and share with the group those that I have read.
Hello everyone. Hope you find a book or two you think you'll enjoy and will join our group reads. Book discussions are such fun and so enlightening. Other people have such different takes on certain parts of writings and it makes me think and rethink about what I've read.

I've read some amazing books based on the group reads here.
Hi. I am Kate. I don't know how much time I will have to spend reading the books you select as I am already reading all the time. But I need me some mysteries to offset all the SF and Fantasy I usually read. Every year I try to find a great series and just read the whole thing during the year. Most recently, a reread of most of John Sandford, C.J. Box's Joe Pickett, and last year most of J.A. Jance's books. This year, I have not found a series, so I thought I might join in for a few reads with you guys, if that's ok.

I do like cozy mysteries a lot as well, though, so joined this group because of that. I have been surprised by the amount of group reads with this group that I have enjoyed.
I’m Justine, and normally read a lot of horror, SF and fantasy, but I also love good thrillers, especially domestic and psychological thrillers. Actually I just like it when a book is really good :)

Justine wrote: "I’m Justine, and normally read a lot of horror, SF and fantasy, but I also love good thrillers, especially domestic and psychological thrillers. I used to force myself to read a book if I started it, but I've decided life is too short.
Welcome, Vicki how do you like living in the Canary Islands, Spain?🇪🇸 I’ve only known one person who lived there! I like different genres of books. Mystery, Memoirs, Thrillers, Historical Fiction, and some Romance mixed in with a bit of mystery. Hope you find some interesting books to read here. Have a great’s week 😊
Hi everyone, I’m a teacher from the Caribbean. 🇹🇹
I’ve been on GR for quite some time, but I’ve only recently began writing reviews, book journaling and keeping record of what I read. Reason being, a lot of the time I forget small details about the books I read.
I love reading psychological thriller, horror, paranormal/ supernatural, sci-fi, dystopian, mystery, suspense novels and any other hybrid genres. I typically need to get fully immersed and emotionally connected to any character in a book for me to enjoy the story. I also don’t believe in DNF books. I usually power through and give it my honest rating.
Feel free to recommend some books to me and connect with me if you like! I follow back 📚🐛💜
Hi, Jakob from Stockholm here. Moved back home a couple of Presidents ago after having spent 20 years in San Francisco. I am a relapsing Nordic noir writer, dark tales with morally compromised characters, but I am also addicted to reading. At this moment, Hamnet, Odyssey by Stephen Fry (a man too brilliant for words), and, of course, Harry Bosch.
Hi, I'm Kate. I never introduced myself here even though I have been hanging around for a couple of weeks. I'm usually a SF & F reader, and I am even a moderator in a few groups here on GR. But every once in a while, I need mysteries. I was so glad to see a Linwood Barclay book on selected here that I had never read. Thanks for that. He's one of my faves.
I'm not really a cozy mystery girl. I read some cozy mysteries before the genre was even named, I think. Charlaine Harris's Teagarden and Shakespeare mysteries before she ever thought about writing vampire books. And there is Charlotte Armstrong, whom I loved since I was a kid. Ditto Mary Stewart--we are having a read of some of hers over in a group that is mostly fantasy. Apparently she created the romance/mystery/thriller genre singlehandedly.
But generally, I like police procedurals. My favorites are:
Prey and Virgil Flowers by John Sandford
In Death by J.D. Robb
Joe Pickett by C.J. Box
and more recently, J.P. Beaumont and Joanna Brady by J.A. Jance
Ideas for other series like Prey or Joanna Brady would be much appreciated. Don't say Bosch. I got tired of Bosch after about three books.
My favorite standalone mystery, probably considered a cozy mystery these days, is King and Joker by Peter Dickinson. It's a riot! Not funny per se, but just so enchanting it drags you into the story and you never stop reading.
Welcome to the group, Kateblue, Jakob, Semee! I’ve been involved with Goodreads for about several years now. I like a variety of genres. Carmen 😊

As you continue scrolling down the discussion topics you will find questions, nominations, group reads for February, collection group reads, group reads for January, and then the 2026 challenges. Hi all.I was left a house [a big house]. I sold it. I’m now on my travels. My hobbies are discovering new places, people watching, being in the background (unnoticed), staying footloose and fancy free. I'm presently touring France: I'll be here for a year or two, then I'll head to Italy, from there I'll continue east until they speak something else.
I read the modern world. I don't do sci-fi, fantasy, horror or romance (none of it is real). I do a small amount of fiction, fiction based on reality (not the preposterous).

Hello y’allI’m just looking for something to pass the time. Reading is so much better that cow wrangling.
Hello everyone, I am Ashman Taylor,I'm always drawn to morally grey characters who aren’t purely heroic or villainous. When their choices blur the line between right and wrong, the story feels much more real and intense.
Welcome to all the new members of the group! We're glad you found us and hope you will enjoy the group.

Hello everyone!I’m excited to join this book club. I’ve always been drawn to the works of Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle, because their stories make me think and question everything. Yet, my hypotheses almost always turn out to be wrong—especially with Christie, which makes her books even more enjoyable!
I’m also here to keep practicing my English, since it’s not my first language. Reading in English allows me to enjoy what I love most while improving my skills. Wishing you all a wonderful weekend ahead!
Hi everyone! I'm Celeste Rivers, a contemporary romance author. I write age-gap workplace romance with authentic legal themes. My Strictly series features forbidden romance, courtroom drama and steamy emotional connections. Happy to be here! I'm on TikTok as @celesteriversauthor
Mountain CrossingI spent more than forty years as an investigative reporter, chasing stories across courtrooms, hospitals, government offices, and crime scenes.
Today, I bring that same instinct for truth into my fiction—writing crime novels and thrillers rooted in real-world drama, where the stakes are high, and the consequences are real.
I was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida, and still live there. I studied environmental science and journalism at the University of Florida, two fields that continue to shape my work. Over the course of my career, I covered healthcare, government, crime, and environmental issues for newspapers across the country, and I still freelance for publications in Sarasota and Detroit.
My fiction reflects that background.
The Jack Kendall Mystery series follows an investigative reporter who uncovers dangerous truths others would rather keep hidden. These stories move from Florida to Jamaica, Bogotá, and beyond, blending international intrigue with the gritty reality of journalism. The series includes Mountain Crossing, Becky, Bone Valley, and Nokomis Hospital, with the next installment, Breakthrough Lies, scheduled for release in August 2026.
At the same time, I’ve taken a different path into the unknown with the Tim and Peggy Smith Space Adventure trilogy, a family-driven science fiction series inspired in part by a challenge from my two sons. Beginning with Danger From Space and continuing with Flight to the Stars, these novels explore discovery, resilience, and humanity’s place in the universe. The next book, Children of the Stars, is set for release in late 2026.

Welcome Shyrley! Your English is fantastic.
Hi everyone, I just joined the group and I love mystery, thrillers, and romantic suspense.I especially enjoy stories with strong female characters, secrets, emotional tension, and unexpected twists. Lately I’ve also been reading more romantic suspense set in glamorous or unusual locations, which makes the stories even more fun.
Looking forward to getting recommendations from this group!
