Cally Robert Jordan knew he was dying, so knew he had to get notes down. I think that Brandon Sanderson has done a very good job. However, unfortunately, GRRM has apparently actually written it into his will that nobody is allowed to finish it if he dies. Thankfully, he has told the producers of the TV series the ending, so that they can finish that off if necessary. *Sarcasm*

Cally My problem isn't that he won't let anyone else finish it - I understand that completely! I have a problem with him saying that it is OK for the TV series to be completed but not the book. Why would someone be more capable of finishing the series if it is completed via television rather than books?

message 3: by Cally (new)

Cally But the TV series is based entirely on the book. Just because it has three people working on it doesn't mean that the ending, or indeed the story leading up to it, will be what Martin intends it to be. It is HIS story, not the producers of the television show.

Cally But he doesn't think that he will get the books out in time, and has said that. He has said that the tv series is likely to overtake the books, which is where I have a problem. What then happens to the book series if the tv show has overtaken it?

message 5: by Rob (new)

Rob There's a difference between someone else finishing your story in a different medium, and someone else writing novels to finish your story. A novel is more than just the story. I suppose Martin doesn't want someone else messing with the legacy of his novels with a different writing style or faulty characterizations.

Bgmcleod I have had the same thought. I hope he takes care of himself!!!

message 7: by Bianca (new)

Bianca Klas Martin has given the key points of the story line to the TV series directors so if he does die the series will be able to be completed but not sure about the book.

message 8: by Nathan (new)

Nathan Washor Martin is vocally against anyone else writing in his world - even fan-fiction - so I seriously doubt that if he dies it will ever be finished. This said, lets toast to his good health!
